I ended up buying a new set of tighteners when one went missing this fall. I had to use a bungee cord during the first big snow this year. It's Ironic that the winter all 4 of my tires would have low tread is the year of the excessively long winter. I have had to deploy my chains on 5 different occasions just to make it home and into my driveway. Not a good year under any circumstances. But the arrival of these tighteners made the whole process much easier and more secure than it would have been.I did have some trouble finding out which size I needed. The SCC catalog lists these as 5-packs only. But using the same item # on amazon gets you a single set, which is great.

If you're asking yourself if you need these because you put SCC tire chains into your cart just now, YOU DO NOT. The SCC chain kits come with a spare, so buy these only once your main breaks or if you want double- or triple-redundancy (which I do desire).That stated, these are quality, well-packaged, and arrive quickly. Happy ice/snow-driving! Hope you have 4WD.

Have not used these yet. We did a trial application on my son's car before he headed to college in Maine. It will be easier next time. We are using these instead of snow tires for the limited driving he will be doing. It is more cost efficient than snow tires at this point.

Work good, but VERY stiff - my wife would NEVER be able to put these SCC binders on if she were out and about and needed to put on her SCC cable chains to get home.

This is my first purchase of tire chains/cables, so nothing to compare with.Pros: It provided good traction on the snow and ice, they stayed on alright without adjustment for three days trip to Big Bear.Cons: While it was easy to put in a garage during test, it proved to be very hard in the field condition in freezing weather.

A lot of reviewers said the ones that come with the Security chains will eventually break so it is a good idea to have these as back-ups. THey were unbelievably cheap, so I bought them for that. They are exact replacments for the originals. Glad I have the extra peace of mind to have them in the bag in my trunk.

I purchased the Shur Grip Z cable-chains because I wanted something which can be installed without having to move the vehicle. This rubber tightener, like the rest of the installation, is easy to use but the plastic seems likely to break.
