Geometry is frequently a frustrating subject for students because the problems almost always involve a complicated figure that intimidates the student. Compounding the problem is that Geometry involves definitions that make things seem harder than they really are. The Geometry Tutor is a 9 hour course that takes things step by step so that no one gets lost. The definitions and theorems are presented with examples so that the student does not simply memorize the terms but rather he or she truly understands the material. Since each example problem uses a figure just as a textbook does, the student gains familiarity and confidence with reading figures, which is one of the main sticking points in this course. Finally, the Geometry Tutor is like a personal tutor in your home teaching you the logic behind Geometry that you can pause and rewind as needed. The set covers lines, rays, and planes, angles, intersecting lines, triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, Polygons, Quadrilaterals, area and perimeter of different shapes, volume, circles, cylinders, cones, and spheres, and then ends with a lesson on Geometric Proofs. Like Jason's other programs, he gives just enough theory to introduce the topic, but then spends the bulk of the lessons going through examples, step-by-step. It is just Jason in front of a whiteboard working on problems, and so that has to mesh with your learning style if you are going to find it helpful. This is a set that will give you a foundation for material that you will need long after a geometry class. Even if you are in college and your school does not have a geometry class as a part of the curriculum, this set will be helpful even in algebra and especially in trig. And, if you are taking geometry, it will work well as a study aid. The lesson on proofs, in my opinion, is worth the cost of the set. Jason gives a great explanation for how to approach them and makes them a lot less difficult than they can be if you don't get a good explanation on how to do them. I definitely recommend this. Review: Just what we needed! - My son just started his freshman year in high school 3 weeks ago. He's been having a hard time adapting to his geometry teacher's methods and the amount of information given. We have been staying up every night helping and mainly teach him where some information seemed to be lacking. We decided to get this video and watch it over Labor Day weekend. This video is EXACTLY what we were wanting. The teacher on the video is clear and covers all aspects of the terms, theorems and the logic to geometry. This one video covers my son's entire text book this year and possibly next year. The best thing is that if he didn't get something right away we could rewind and watch it again till he understood the concepts. This is a must tool to allow anyone who needs to comprehend geometry. For us we are using it so that he can get ahead and no longer struggle with homework/class work/quizzes for the rest of the year.

If you've tried the rest, now try the best. He makes math easy.
I'm a substitute teacher and tutor. I hate to think how hard it would be learn math without Jason Gibson. I've tried others - torture and frustration. He makes it easy and, dare I say it? FUN. Mr. Gibson is an engineer (with the NASA space shuttle - how cool is that?). He teaches you how to DO THINGS in the real world, no theoretical mumbo jumbo to confuse you. When you watch this series, don't try too hard - just quiet your mind and really listen.

A great overview of geometry
The instructor uses a simple white board, but his explanations are clear and concise. He begins with the very basic terminology and definitions and builds from there to more challenging proofs and theorems. He helps make sense of some of the more complex concepts by linking them to everyday examples. Samples from his DVDs may be viewed on his website. I recommend his upper level math DVDs to everyone who wants to review the concepts from geometry or who wants a thorough explanation in layman's terms of how to do proofs.

a shame about the cold
The dvd is good, but I find it rather annoying that Jason has got a nasty cold. It screws up hisvoice and takes away his fire...

Helpful but too many errors
I would recommend it. But there is error after error misspellings and more importantly the math. They have to cover it up by those ridiculous looking blocks. Why don't they just reshoot the video with the correct #'s? I found myself looking for the errors as time went by.

Great for beginning students
This is a great series! My daughter is in pre-Algebra, doing some initial Algebra and Geometry basics and this unit is slow enough that she is confident in hearing the new concepts as they are presented. It is a great foundational course for someone beginning Geometry. However, my son is in Geometry now and covered all of the topics in this disc in the first couple of months of class, so it depends on the pace and level of your student.

Breaking down barriers-
Math is so critical to everything and yet it is overlooked by many people. Listen to what Jason says and follow Him and work thru the problems as well as watch the DVD's. Jason breaks all the barriers down so gradually that it becomes easy for anyone. One thing he stresses is to work thru the problems yourself and write down the problems to work your brain, don't just follow him.
