The Wedding Date

Really, really good.
Is there a difference between a romantic novel and a romance novel? Is it fair, for instance, to compare Pride and Prejudice, with its deep classical theory and commentary on class struggles, to Julia Quinn’s Bridgeton novels with their keen observation of society and love? Is one better than the other?Let me admit something to you. It is not something I am proud of. I AM A BOOK SNOB. There I have admitted it. Judge me. I deserve it.For years I have been a slave to the expectations of my education. Ever since I read Nabokov and Joyce in a freshman lit course, I only read important books. The ones that win the Booker prize or the National book award. You know - weighty novels. I had begun to believe what my professors taught me - that what you read matters and maybe if you read more important books you are better than other people. But in the last year (maybe it was COVID) something snapped and I developed a romance addiction. And I mean addiction ... in 2020 I read 291 romance novels and I didn't start until March. This year I have already completed 82. And I have learned a few things.I was the dumb one. I missed out on something enjoyable because of a preconceived notion. Granted, I found where some of those notions come from. There are some absolutely atrocious romance novels out there. But then - and here is the review - I get lucky enough that someone recommends a book like Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date where the main characters are equals. Both Alexa and Drew are smart and funny. The book and the characters have personality. They fall in love with each other, with a few bumps along the way, in a funny, honest, and then all-consuming way. From the moment I picked this up, I was hooked. It is a story with heat, heart, and substance. It reminded me that my current addiction is OK. There are great books in the genre that are also extremely well written. Is this destined to be a classic? Probably not. Will it make the list of best books ever? Not likely. But this is good. Really, really good.

Fun quick read, very enjoyable !
This book was fun, romantic, entertaining and entertaining !I really liked the two main characters, Alexa and Drew. Alexa was a dedicated, hard-working, and smart woman. I loved her passion for her work and how much she wanted to help her community. Drew was a kind, charming, and swoon-worthy man. I also was so surprised by the development and inclusion of so many wonderful side characters. I knew Drew’s friend Carlos already since I read “The Proposal” first when it was a @hellosunshine book club pick and that book is “his” story ... I genuinely loved every character that the author created in this story. I am going to read the other two books in this series because I cannot stop thinking about these characters! The romance between Alexa and Drew was perfectly paced and executed. The way their relationship developed felt so honest and realistic. Their relationship slowly changed from a fake relationship into a real relationship with deep feelings. It was so much fun watching them take chances together and realize how perfect they were for each other. Alexa and Drew were so supportive of each other and genuinely wanted to see each other succeed. Their dedication to each other made my heart grow 50 times bigger.Even though there were moments of predictability, this book was still extremely enjoyable! The author did a great job at keeping the book entertaining and hilarious! There were moments of miscommunication, which was understandable but so frustrating! The miscommunication definitely added a lot of tension between Alexa and Drew which kept the plot moving and it felt realistic.Overall, this was a wonderful romantic comedy. If you are in the mood for a charming, hilarious, and adorable romance novel, a quick read, then I definitely would recommend this book!

I wanted to love it
I started off LOVINGGGG it but after the wedding things seem to just go downhill a little. It’s like their entire relationship was based on sex and miscommunication. It’s like they hardly got time to really get to know each other because all they did was sleep with each other. Also the barely there descriptions of them sleeping together were so dull it didn’t even have to be written. Yet they were there in the majority of the book. Alexa was childish and very insecure. Drew was disrespectful sometimes and other times acted like an idiot to his own feelings . I hated their relationship and the story being reduced to them visiting each other back and forth solely on the weekends. I’m just a little disappointed. It started off so promising.

amazing book, could not put it down, read in 1 sunday
There is nothing more cliché than a romance that starts with someone needing a wedding date or a fake-to-real relationship or a guy that is afraid to commit and a girl that is somewhat insecure in dating, nonetheless, this book turns the cliché into an engaging reading. The characters are multifaceted and very charming millennials. It is a light-hearted romance, to read it all on a Sunday afternoon.

A pleasant and relatable read
A side from being a contemporary romance novel, the author also shares many realities of life that deal with colour. She shares them in funny, and not so funny scenarios that are relatable. I definitely recommend this book.
