Hotpoint GENUINE INDESIT DOOR LOCK INTERLOCK SWITCH 1604781

My washing machine wasn't registering that the door was closed so I researched how to fix this and came across a YouTube video explaining how to replace the locking mechanism. I figured, seeing as the part was pretty reasonably priced, that it was worth trying to repair it myself. The part was delivered quickly and I've now installed it. Happy to report that it does the job and my machine works! Well worth buying.

Perfect item I was abit weiry after never trying to fix a washing machine before the part was slightly bigger but works perfectly along with new wire and was rather easy to fit

Unfortunately it keeps breaking, maybe the plastic is not strong enough, this is the third I buy

Bought this part to attempt to fix our washing machine that would turn on but not start the cycle. Having been told that it might be the door lock, and having been quoted a substantial sum to repair it, we decided to have a go ourselves. With some great advice from someone in an appliance shop, and consulting Google, we ordered the part and kept our fingers crossed. The old door lock was very easy to access and remove and the new lock was just as easy to replace and attach. Thankfully, it was the door lock that had gone and now with the new one the machine is working again. Was worth the gamble to try ourselves.

My Indesit washing machine would not play. For a while, I had been thumping the door occasionally when it was reluctant to lock and start the programme, but now it seemed to have given up completely. There was no error code, just a flashing, red "lock" light. I opened it up and took a look. It was easy to remove the lock from the inside, but not so easy to figure out how it worked. Google is your friend in such situations, and soon I knew how an interlock worked. I tested it, and realised something was amiss with the electricals inside. Opening the interlock (in a rather destructive manner), I discovered the bit which heats up to trip the switch had burned out. I tried bypassing it, and the machine came to life for a few seconds before displaying an error code and stopping again. At least this seemed a positive step, so I ordered a replacement. I ordered on a Sunday evening, and it arrived Tuesday. Fitting was a simple matter of pushing on the old electrical connector and screwing it to the machine. The hardest part was manoeuvring the machine back under the worktop. I am very happy to have been able to fix the machine myself so quickly for under £7. I hate to think how much I would have had to pay for an engineer to call, and I may even have had to take time off work to be available. At this price, it is worth having a go. If it does not resolve your problem, you have lost little. If you end up calling an engineer anyway, at least you will have a new interlock for him to fit without paying over the odds - in my experience, professionals often change door locks before trying anything else.

Item arrived without fitting screws. Hard to find some fitting the spacing....

I was quoted £80 for labour and £25 for parts plus vat ! They said it was a major job ,I said no and order this , it arrived in 2 days and took me 10 minutes to fit , after watching a youtube video , the washer now works like new.
