I recommend not matching your color on your own.
My hair is brown. Lighter than my brothers and incredibly lighter than my sisters. So I chose light brown and I was way off. 🤣. When I applied it to my head, I realized I should've gone with dark brown. And since the stuff is a fine powder, it looked interesting 🤣. In conclusion, I will re-order the product with a significantly darker shade and "I will try again". I guess I should mention the powder was dull, and my hair still has a little bit of natural shine. So, beyond the color difference, I could still tell the difference between which was which.

It does a great job.
It can be a little messy as particles fall onto other surfaces when you sprinkle it onto hair. Black was the only color available and I really need a dark brown.
