In Any Lifetime: A Novel

If You Liked Dark Matter You'll Love This
A complicated well told story of a scientist's quest to find his wife in another universe. Really unusual book but it's one of the best I've read for some time. It really does keep you guessing until the end. Heroes and villains, a great fantasy!

Alternative reality travel
This Novel was the July Amazon Prime first reads novel I downloaded it because I particularly enjoyed time travel novelsIn the story, Jonas, a renowned physicist loses his beloved wife horrendous car crash on the same day that she discovers she’s pregnant. fortunately, his research has just discovered that it is possible to travel to alternate worlds., He has proved the theory of multiple universes. of course like anybody he theorises that there must be a world out there where his wife survived the car crash and plans to try to travel and refine her.The science in this novel is described simply using the Schrodinger’s cat an allergy of a cat being both alive and dead at the same time in multiple universe. The author avoids much more detailed scientific description as it’s not really needed. There are some aspects of real life that turn up in the novels such as the large hadron collider in CERN which is of course part of the way that he can open the link between parallel universesAdd in a rogue fellow scientist determined to take all the scientific accolade to himself and prevent Jonas travelling and you have a chase around different worlds. They’re awesome quite exciting portions with some fight scenes that read quite nicely and make you feel quite excited and tense. Ultimately I wasn’t particularly enamoured by the ending and didn’t really love this book. It’s a reasonably well written example of the genre and I enjoyed reading it just didn’t love it . Although we were given glimpses of the alternative realities these didn’t seem quite enough for me. I wanted more..!The author has a clear prose style which is easy to read and I found the novel a comfortable enjoyable readI read the book early on Amazon first reads the book is published on the 1st of August 2024 by lake union publishingThis review review will appear on Goodreads and my book blog bionicSarahSbooks on WordPress. after publication it will also appear on Amazon UK

OK, but not the best parallel worlds tale.
I got this for free as part of the First Reads monthly give away. The rating would have been lower if I'd paid for it.This is a fairly run of the mill chase story. It felt like a script for a TV movie, if Hallmark did science fiction. The premise was OK, but I felt the antagonist was contrived and cartoonish. There was no real attempt to make us understand the antagonist's motivation. The pacing was awful. The author thanks his editor in the credit, but personally I think a good 30% of this needed to be cut. Paradoxically, the ending wrapped up so quickly that it felt rushed after the sagging slog of the middle third. There were also a few glaring plot holes that the author acknowledged by calling them out, but not in a way that I found satisfactory. It's not bad. The writing flowed and was easy to read. It's just not great.

Great book
Devoured this in one go. Great characters and really good storyline. Love the idea that there might be parallel universes out there :)

I raced through this book as it is one of those stories of which you are desperate to reach the conclusion. I like Time Travel/Multiverse stories and although there is alot of science involved, the reader can gloss over that and still keep up with the plot. The author's background in comic books, film and TV writing really show and I can easily imagine watching this, though the CGI costs would be epic! Jonas and Amanda's love story is at the heart of the story and appealed to my romantic side. It reminded me of The Frequency of Us by Keith Stuart, a favourite of mine, but with added Jack Reacher-esque fight scenes and baddies Macon and Victor following him through the various universes. A thrilling, rollercoaster of a book.

Out of this world!
This book is summed up simply by the word "wow".Right from the start you witness this perfect and pure love, and then on the greatest night of their lives you see it all taken away.Jonas is a relatable protagonist with a love for one woman that spans his universe and many more. As we delve deeper into the book we discover just how beautiful their love is and how even death isn't the boundary it used to be.It's funny, clever, deep and romantic all at once. The universe favours certain outcomes and you reading this book should absolutely be one of those outcomes. Well recommended!

Unusually for me I did not finish this book. The beginning was interesting and the multi universe theory well explained. The problem for me was the repetitiveness of the story in each universe. But give it a go think of it as a love story and it.might taken your fancy.

First half not bad but became repetitive
I was excited to read a science based thriller set in the Many Worlds. However, I didn't enjoy the romance part of it because I felt the dialogue between the couple was way too obvious and not that deep with the cliche "I love you" and "I love you more!" exclamation. A physics genius should've been able to come up with something more deep and less teeny than that. Parts of it felt like an inferior version of a Blake Crouch novel like Dark Matter with the old "what if you travelled in time/space and encountered yourself" trope. The plot was quite linear too. A man running after his wife chased by an obvious villain. The science part was OK, but not surprising. I enjoyed the first half of the book as I was intrigued and excited to see the protagonist slip realities but once he had, I felt the plot was too underdeveloped to warrant a 4**** or 5***** review.

AMAZING BOOK
I loved each word. I would love it in any universe. A perfect story about love, loss and how the universe has a plan.

Liked it!
I must confess, I have a penchant for Time Travel novels. Most of them are not very good. I am happy to report, however, this one IS good. Well written, interesting premise, with lots of thrills and action. Naturally, you have to suspend your disbelief. But aside from the villain in this story, the characters are both likable and have depth. It’s a fast read and a worthwhile one with just the right amount of “science” to both confuse and amuse the reader.

An unusual story.
This was one of my two Amazon First Reads for July. I am so glad I chose it.Doctor Jonas Cullen had developed a theory that there are multi universes. When he and his wife Amanda have a car accident and she is killed, he is determined to find her in one of the other universes.Jonas sets out to find a parallel universe where Amanda is still alive. However, things do no always work out for him.The story is fast paced, with trauma, love, hate, friends and enemies. This is an interesting story and I loved it.

Fun action/romance book with some scifi elements
Interesting premise, but some sections are just too long and detailed (being told exactly what people are thinking), while others (towards the end) haves days pass in mere paragraphs.I personally got frustrated with each flashback as it slowed down the story. The characters are well fleshed out albeit the villain is predictable. This book is more action and romance than science fiction. The science fiction elements are simply to move the story forward. As someone who loves hard science fiction, I could see a lot of scientific issues that I ignored while reading this book -- a vertical particle accelerator in an earthquake zone?!The action scenes were surprisingly well written and I could easily understand the fight scenes -- an area where most writers do poorly but not here. The ending was both good and bad. The good (an expected ending turns out to have many unexpected twists and turns) and the bad (too many unexplained dead bodies that NYPD just seems to ignore).A minor quibble: the title is so generic that I can never remember it.Ultimately the book could have been improved, lots of the redundancy removed, but still a good book that is not too deep and fun to read.

I have read a few novels involving a multiverse and this one is unique in many of its ideas and storylines, making for an interesting novel with lots of twist and turns.
