ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Handheld Gaming Console

Love my rog and take it every where with me to play xbox or pc games, its so much more than a simple hand held gaming device, in windows mode it turns i to a full pc and can be used as one along with mouse and keyboards, connect to the tv fkr a large screen or use the built in screen fkr on the go, steam works well and its fully customisable, yiu can actually upgrade internals for higher pc specs and battery life aint bad. Recommend buying a doc also if running it as a pc at home using a monitor/tv just for ease of hdmi and charging otherwise just use as is. Graphics are good and the built in fans are really atromg and cool the device in seconds to prevent over heating. Memory is limited so if u want more get the other rog or purchase a large sd card or upgrade the internal memory.

Why is this so cheap? I cannot understand why this is so cheap? This device is crazy good. I own several handhelds AYN Thor, SteamDeck, PS Portal and a whole bunch of others (yes I have a problem). When I saw this at the price it is, given the memory and storage shortage driving prices through the roof and every other manufacturer putting prices up I thought it was a mistake. Don't underestimate though, this is not a device for kids or people new to gaming, this is not an XBOX (despite the branding) it is a PC and as such needs to be configured and tinkered with but that flexibility gives great options, after about 3 hours of tinkering I got this exactly how I wanted. I'm playing modern AAA titles on it and it is breezing through. it's comfortable to hold, and those speakers OMG the sound is incredible. The joysticks are nice an responsive with precision input and the buttons are easy to press. Of course at this price point it is not perfect, the screen is "OK" and when in windows mode using the touchscreen is clunky and the battery life when pushing it hard is rubbish, this is a device you need to plug in to the wall or carry around a high powered battery bank, if you play lighter titles and reduce the wattage then you can get decent battery life. There are way more positives than negatives and currently this is my number 1 device. I simply cannot believe or even fathom to understand how Asus are able to sell this at the price it is, if I didn't know better and someone showed me this and said they paid over £1,000 for it, I would not doubt them.

Easy set up if your a tech person. Otherwise just watch you tube video. Item came well packed. Only downside was it looked liked it had been opened as seals were broken. Battery life couple of hours at best, plays my games, screen quality is great with tinkering. All in all I'm satisfied.

I have had it for two weeks and I only use the pc side as the Xbox stuff doesn't remotely interest me. I bought this on sale for £350 to see how much I'd use a handheld. I'm not gonna pay £80 for switch games and I'm not gonna pay £1000 for a more powerful one when I have a high end pc to play proper games on. The good! Its a fun toy for pc enthusiasts but it certainly has a few quirks. I have a high end pc so there are very few games I'd rather play on this. This allows me to enjoy old games for what they are. Half the time I spend on this is emulating gameboy advanced games and the other half I play old pc games from before 2015 (Riddick). For games which can scarecely utilise high end pc hardware its a lot of fun. I personally have no interest playing cyberpunk or anything on this when I can push it hard as possible on the pc and mod the crap out of it. This reminds me of playing my gba sp in bed when I couldn't be bothered playing my ps2. The screen is nice and the xbox controller feels great. I cannot stress how good it is to play old games on this. The bad! When you turn it on and try to sign in, half the time you have to turn the on-screen keyboard on as the pin screen won't show up. (More annoying than it sounds) Performace seems to vary. When emulating games for more complex consoles, I can tweak everything until its perfect then hand it to a friend a few days later and its a buggy slow mess. As someone that doesn't care about the xbox stuff I should really change the OS already as its mildy annoying having to switch to pc. There is a lot of debugging. It becomes less over time but almost everytime I turn it on I have to figure something out. Kinda just how it is with a new pc so I mildly enjoy the problem solving. You just have to understand it is a pc. These are mostly minor issues that I may figure out in time. Verdict! Great if you have a serious pc! Useless if you wanna get this over a switch 2 and no little about computers. Had to tell my sister to get a switch 2 as that is her.

In my experience this is an absolute nightmare to setup and then carry out updates. Then I had issues with downloading a game- actually more that than issues- it was impossible. I was left totally frustrated. I had no option but to return it.

Since almost all tech is having its price raised recently for £389 at the time of writing this gives steam deck like performance for a much lower cost since the steam deck went up to £650. Battery life and performance are fine for most games as long as you don’t expect to run the latest and greatest at 1080p 60fps. For the price it’s excellent, best suited to older or indie games unless you are happy playing AAA games at 720p 30fps which will come down to personal preference although 720p on a 7 inch screen looks fine

I'm sure it's a great device in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing but unfortunately that isn't me. I done everything I could to get it set up properly but I just had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I uploaded two games call of the angler and train sim world 6 set it up to the best settings I could do and was only getting 15fps witch can't possibly be correct and I ended up very frustrated it's not a device for someone who knows nothing about pc and setting it up out the box take's absolutely age's it's just not for me so I'm unfortunately sending it back to get something easier to set up and play and also factory reset took over 2 hours it was an absolute nightmare

Great console my son loves it .. will definitely be debloating windows on it soon to get better performance..

The console is great overall! The only small downside — it feels slow when you first turn it on, but after a few minutes it runs perfectly. Screen quality is excellent no issues at all. Online gaming works really smoothly too. You can download almost any launcher and almost any game. Perfect for travelling or just relaxing somewhere. Feels really comfortable to hold, great device🎮
