Engaging and funny read
Another hit from Bright and Field! As ever, Bright's talent for taking a moral message and making it child friendly and engaging results in a story that children will love and adults will be happy to read again and again. This time the message is about the importance not being greedy, learning to share and working together. The writing bounces along and the illustrations are perfect and engaging, even requiring you to turn the book round in places to display a full picture - which will help maintain a child's concentration!. The printing quality is extremely high on nice thick pages.

Lovely book.
Love this story. It's about two squirrels that need to learn to share. Read this several times.

Good
It’s a good story and it has its moments. I find that the font type used makes it a bit hard to read sometimes.

We love this book, would recommend!
My three year old loves the story of this book (and I do too!) The illustrations are beautiful, and add to the well rhymed words. It is quite wordy (I don’t mean this as a negative thing!) and definitely needs reading by an adult. It has a lovely message as the squirrels become friends even though neither of them end up with what it is they were fighting over!

Quite an adorable book for my 2 year old who loves the drama of the story. Very sturdy so hopefully will last the not so delicate hands of a toddler.

If you’ve ever witnessed a dramatic argument over something very small (last biscuit, remote control, emotional support snack), this book will feel… familiar. Painfully familiar. And very funny. Cyril and Bruce are squirrels with one big problem: they both want the same thing. And instead of talking, sharing, or even mildly compromising, they do what squirrels, and humans, often do best: they squabble. Loudly. Stubbornly. With full conviction that they are absolutely right. What makes this story shine is how relatable it is without being heavy. Rachel Bright captures that wonderfully human tendency to cling to being right, even when it costs us connection, joy, and sometimes the very thing we’re fighting over. Children will laugh at the escalating chaos. Adults will quietly recognise office meetings, family dinners, and online comment sections. The humour is spot on. The pace is quick, the misunderstandings pile up beautifully, and the consequences arrive with just the right mix of drama and gentleness. No moral lecture. Just a clear, kind “see what happens when we forget what really matters”. The illustrations burst with energy. You can almost hear the arguing. And yet, when the story slows down, there’s space for reflection, warmth, and reconciliation. It’s visually noisy in the best possible way. This book is perfect for talking about sharing, conflict, pride, and friendship, without making anyone feel wrong or small. It invites laughter first, insight second. Which is often how the best lessons land. In short: a hilarious, heartfelt reminder that winning an argument is rarely better than keeping a friend. Especially when snacks are involved 🐿️🤎

My 2 year old kid loves this book and all the other books by Rachel Bright and Jim Field. Good quality board book, bright and beautiful illustrations with some really gorgeous landscape art, catchy wordings, lovely and meaningful stories that capture the imagination of not just our kids but of our own too. Go for it. It will be a wonderful addition to your and your children's library.
