PENNSpinfisher VII Spinning Reel and Fishing Rod Combo

Bought this when it was on sale.For having paid less than what the reel costs alone I'm already satisfied with the amount of paid.I'm a big fan of Penn reels. I own my fair share of Spinfisher V series reels and was looking forward to trying out the new Spinfisher VI series. Love the smaller body design in this next generation of the spinfisher. It seems bit lighter than the V series. I've also heard that it's basically a clone of the Slammer III series, but with a few less seals. Love that it's finally officially IPX sealed. Although I think the V series was also considered a sealed reel.The rod is Meh. I'm not too sure about the steel guides, but it seems like many major box fishing companies are going that route. I think uglystik do and no the pursuit III series is supposed also have stainless steel guides. My biggest concern is the erosion caused by braided line over time. We'll see though.I like the 1-5oz rating making it pretty versatile. I would say the power is Heavy the action is medium fast. Probably won't use the rod, but much for the price of the combo it's totall worth it.

The only reel I have ever had you can drop in saltwater a rinse off and still be good. Only a few of the Penns have sealed bearings and this is one of them. I kayak fish and that is a big deal to me so i spend the money. I have 5 in all the sizes and use them weekly, and they give me no issues. I have caught some big red fish on these reels. I will buy more when these wear out and use the old ones for parts.

Great starter combo for the price. Used offshore catching some Barracuda and Cobia recently. Didn't let me down. So far has held up as long as I take care off it and rinse the salt off after use.

For the price, the whole package looks great. Unfortunately, the rod arrived with issues on the guides. The coating on the guides is either inconsistent or cracked. I thought about returning it, but I have trip coming up. I'll just figure out how to clean up the guides and try it out.

This is a great combo for when you are not 100% confident in what size fish you will hook. Inshore it will pull a large snook out of the mangroves and take on any Red. Nearshore or offshore this is a great casting rod and will handle larger lures and jigs as well as fight larger fish.

Reel feels extra smooth, line lay was perfect out of the box, rod has decent action and feels strong. Good for a boat rod. The live bait feeder was set great and I didn’t have to adjust the tension. Only flaw was the tool to adjust the live bait feeder was not in the box. I have another adjustment tool and it was set perfect already. Penn Spinfisher 6500 liveliner 7’ combo. I would definitely buy again.

Broken tip right out the box. Shipping box was in perfect shape so I assume it was put into the box like that. Beware people...You would think Penn would be a little concerned about the garbage that gets sent out.
