Put wood on the part you'll be hitting. Having said that, use their lump hammer and not a rubber one. You'd have to swing it that hard it'll probably bounce back and hit you on the head.

Purchased to assist in the assembly of a table constructed of metal struts which needed tapping together firmly but without damage. The mallet undoubtably helped complete the job successfully. It is however bigger and heavier than I had anticipated, but that is entirely my fault for overestimating my needs.
