Medium hold hair gel
This Blind Barber 121 Proof Thickening Style Gel is an easy to use water based hair gel. The gel is easy to apply and give a nice light to medium hold look. Not much thickening effect though.

Works ok
The smell is ok- not too strong or offensive. Performs decently and easily washes out. Not sure it’s thickening but it keeps my husbands hair styled in place- he has shorter hair.

Better Suited for Light Hold, Not Quite Medium as Advertised
As someone with thinning hair, I'm always on the lookout for styling products that can offer a reliable hold without weighing down my hair or leaving unwanted residue.Upon using the product, I appreciated that the gel is sulfate and paraben-free and that it has a pleasant scent of tonka beans. The water-based formula is undoubtedly a plus, making it easy to rinse out, which is not always the case with styling gels. However, I must admit that the advertised medium hold is somewhat misleading. In my experience, the hold is more on the light side. This might not be an issue for those with fuller heads of hair or for anyone seeking a more natural look, but if you're in need of something that can withstand a windy day or keep a firmer style in place, this might not be the right product for you.I do take into account that my thinning hair could affect the performance of any hair product, and that may have contributed to the lighter hold. Despite this, I was hoping for the medium hold that was advertised, which left me a bit disappointed. On the upside, this style gel does give a very natural look after application, which is commendable. It doesn't leave hair looking stiff or overly styled, which is a look I prefer and I'm sure others will appreciate as well.

Strong smell
This gel has a light texture, like a pomade. It doesn't have a strong hold. I have thick hair and it didn't do anything with my hair other than make it look very poofy. I think maybe it will work best with hair that has a natural curl or wave. This product also has a very strong perfume scent. Even putting in a little in my (short) hair, I could smell it for a long time. I have a pretty sensitive nose but even still, I was surprised I could smell it so strongly for my hair not being close to my nose. For that alone, I am unable to use it.

Great scent, good for simple styling
I got this for my partner who doesn't use a ton of styling products as he is concerned about them thinning out his hair or exacerbating dandruff. Because this is advertised as being paraben- and sulfate-free, I felt like this was a better option for the few times he does need a little something. This hair gel is infused with hops, which is why they called it 121 proof, though it doesn't smell particularly alcoholic - it has a very pleasant, watery-woody scent which smells quite luxurious and not like a typical 'manly' Axe-deo type smell though it is masculine. As for the hold and thickening aspects - my partner has fairly thick hair strands that don't need volumizing as such because they aren't limp, but he does need something to give his hair shape as it can get poofy if left to its own devices. A small amount of this rubbed on the fingertips and then run through slightly damp hair does the trick of keeping the shape that the water initially makes naturally. The nice thing is that it doesn't make the hair crispy like a typical gel, nor does it flake off like dandruff. It washes out cleanly without leaving a waxy residue.

Decent control with a pleasant fragrance
Many thanks to you, fellow jungle explorer, as well as the seller for the chance to share my experience with Blind Barber 121 Proof Thickening Style Gel. Wholly unfamiliar with the company and clueless about the alcohol reference, I did a quick search to identify the provenance of their made in USA product line. Turns out this New York-based salon enterprise complements your quiff with a complimentary quaff--hence the "proof" in the pudding, er, hair gel.The tonka scented product is transparent and viscous–the deep, boozy vanilla fragrance lingers for some time after application. While it brings remarkable control to styling thinner hair, it’s not a particularly strong hold in the hairspray sense, and frankly, claims of perceptible thickening are a reach. Slick without feeling greasy, it works through wet hair smoothly, weighing down curls and flyaways alike. However, once dry it becomes fairly weightless and lends body as promised--neither tacky nor hard to the touch, smoothing remains evident. Finally, I dig that it’s a net zero, plastic neutral package, although it seems bulkier than needed for the 2.5 oz. quantity.
