Best briefcase ever -- worth every penny!
My wife bought this briefcase for me five years ago, to celebrate the completion of my dissertation and the start of my career as a university professor. At the time, I thought the $350 she spent was outrageous and I even considered returning it. But the briefcase was so attractive and clearly well made, with classic good looks that set it apart from 99% of the other briefcases you see in a professional or academic setting. So I tried using it for a week and could not believe how many compliments I received on it. Everywhere I went, people said, "Wow! Nice briefcase!" or "That's the nicest I've seen!" I had to agree with them. It was the perfect case for my needs. The case has three main compartments, which includes a rear section with a partial sleeve for a laptop, a zippered center section, and a spacious front section that includes organizer pockets for pens, a notepad, a cell phone, and miscellaneous items such as chapstick, paperclips, rubber bands, post-it notes, etc. I can stow all my stuff there comfortably, and the pen organizer loops are just large enough to hold dry erase markers also. The durability of this case is outstanding. After five years of everyday use, it still looks brand new! I have had a lot of durable items in my life, but nothing quite this miraculously resilient to wear and tear. Seriously, I've strapped it on the back of my motorcycle (with bungee cords) to commute to and from work about a thousand times (including once or twice in the rain); I've used it as my carry-on for airplane travel about a dozen times; I've tossed it in and out of the car. I've carried large stacks of papers and stuffed it with very fat Norton anthologies, such as the complete works of Shakespeare. I've even used it as a refreshingly masculine-looking diaper bag during my days out with my baby girl. All I've ever done to maintain it is to rub on some Jack George's leather conditioning lotion once per year. It keeps the leather feeling as supple as human skin. And the only signs of wear AT ALL are some nearly invisible rub marks from scuffing against door frames or other things I've bumped along the way, and some extremely subtle wrinkles (no creases) where it has been strapped down repeatedly by bungee cords. Seriously, you can barely even see even those signs of wear, and strangers still ask me where I got my "new" case. It's simply outstanding! At this rate, I fully expect this briefcase to last the rest of my career as a professor... another 15 years at least. It is one of the few things I have owned and used in my daily life that I consider perfect in its design, durability, and aesthetics. If you're a teacher or a business professional who needs to carry an array of items on a daily basis, this is the case for you. It has impressive capacity, good organizational pockets, outstanding durability, stylish/classic good looks, and great weather resistance (it sheds rain very well and keeps the contents dry).Get it. You won't regret it. I never would've believed a $350 case could be this much better than any of the $150 cases I've owned in the past. Now that I've experienced it myself, I wish I bought one a lot sooner. And it's the best gift my wife has ever given me (besides our daughters, of course).
