A Fun Addition to the Duniverse for All Committed Fans
This novel is the 20th additional volume added to the original 6 book Dune saga. I enjoyed it very much. It filled in a gap in the massive narrative and included some interesting background about Princess Royal Irulan—oldest child of the Emperor. It is also largely about the Fremen girl Chani whom becomes Paul’s mate. I don’t really care for the Chani character—at least not until she evolves much later in the overall saga. This book should be fun for anyone wanting to know more about the overall universe of Dune. As always, I recommend that you skip none of the books and read them all in order of publication. A pleasant easy read for all committed Dune fans.

Not up to usual standards
I've read and reread all of the Dune books and have enjoyed them very much. However, this book seemed to have no major purpose to move things along. I was disappointed with the whole story line and wish I had waited for it to go on sale in a later time period.

Great story
Very engaging back story of the empowers daughters. Also great insight into the character Chani. Really fun to read and will definitely read more.

An easy read.
A great story by two great story tellers, one more novel in the Dune Universe!

mundane at best
Didn’t really learn much about what shaped the two main female characters of dune. So failed as a prequel. Writing was rather prosaic. May be time to move on. I waited for this book having read all other and was dio

Nice leading to Dune itself
Great background on Princess Irulan who, until now, has been a prominent background figure in the Dune sagas. She p!ays a central role in the Imperial Dynasty of House Corrino and demonstrates cunning and foresight beyond that of her father, the Padishah Emperor. We also find development of the character of Chani, a central figure in further chronological editions.

A must read for Dune lovers
I just love how they keep finding new things to say. It is never boring. What a great imagination. Such a large and incredible universe creation. The best part I still have 5 more books to read. One of the best SF operas of all time. Highly recommended.

Excellent work!
This book gives an inside look as to how these two every important women grew into the people they became. The unique way that they each developed shows the influences of their individual worlds. Irulan and Chani were alike in many ways yet totally opposite in others. This is an excellent way to begin to understand what made these women what and who they are.

Keeps the story telling going.
It took some to get in the story since it is my 23 Rd volume in the series. But I got it right still love it .

Another chapter in the Dune saga
If you’re a fan of Dune and you like the BH and KA continuations, then you’ll like this, excellent in my opinion; jolly good yarn!

A good, stand alone story that doesn't require you to read the rest of the Dune series.
I have read every Dune novel written so far, and I'm reaching the point where I wonder if a new Dune novel might not just be a bit superfluous. But I actually really enjoyed this novel. If nothing else, it really fleshes out the character of Princess Irulan, who is somewhat unfairly sidelined, considering her commentary opens up the first Dune novel.Although readers might benefit from reading the original Dune novels first, this is a standalone novel and doesn't require it.
