This pad is twice as thick as old one. I’m heading out to the Appalachian Trail.

Hiking seat pad
Just got it today, it is what I expected. It has a nice nylon sack and fits lengthwise in my backpack; or can be clipped to the outside. Its light weight, water proof and looks durable. (2) clips included.

nicer than expected
I do my share of hiking and volunteer regularly to maintain trails. For years I've been carrying in my pack a scrap of old "space blanket" to sit on during lunch and breaks to keep clean and dry. After a year of trail work and being out this winter in the wet weather, I thought it time to try something more.I was out on the trail this week and tried out this pad. After a damp morning we broke for lunch. Out came the new pad. Since I was already wearing dirty rain pants I normally wouldn't had used the old space blanket. But this pad was a bit of luxury. The padding on the cold bare ground was one thing, but it sure felt as if I had a heated seat. Maybe that aluminum coating has some relevant heat reflective powers.Now I'm going to have to decide if I have space in my cramped pack of gear for one more thing. I might find it worthwhile for those breaks in the cold, hard rock fields and other locations needing a bit of luxury beyond just the view.

Lightweight Hiking Pads Will Be Easy to Add to a Backpack
This insulated pad is intended to be carried in your backpack and then used to sit comfortably when you pause for a rest. Places for resting can often be dirty or muddy, so this could be very useful. There is an attached piece of velcro so each pad stays folded when not in use. Included are two nice bags to keep the two pads in after use so that the insides of your backpacks do not get dirt transferred from the pads. These pads are lightweight and will not be a weight burden to add to your hiking backpack. I gave these 4 stars instead of 5 because of the width. 16 inches is fine for me, but my hiking partner is over 200 lb. and 16 inches would be a little narrow.
