HR on Purpose: Developing Deliberate People Passion

Great resource for anyone in HR, considering HR, or considering leaving HR
I've been working in HR for 13 years and this is by far the most helpful, tell-it-like-it-is book I have read in my career. Steve's approach isn't to shy away from the realities of working in HR or to say that if things aren't going well you should simply go to work in some non-existent utopia. He gives you real examples from his career and practical advice you can use right now regardless of your industry or career level. He is also one of very few authors who will bluntly say "if you don't want to do [xyz], you need a different career."If you're burning out in your career, or want some extra positivity when things are already going great, pick up this book. It's a quick read, and you can knock out a chapter in just a few minutes for a quick refresher. I promise you'll be glad you did!

This book speaks the truth we need to hear about revitalizing the spirit of HR (and management)
In "HR on Purpose," Steve Browne spreads his vital message to HR professionals about the need to re-discover and re-ignite our passion for our chosen field and for serving others -- and he does so in one of the most authentic, conversational voices that I've ever read. As a long-time HR person myself, I've long admired Steve's great and generous contributions to the field and his fellow pro's. I would argue, though, that his words of wisdom here apply just as much to any manager in any field -- not just HR. It's all about leading through taking the time to get to know, serve, and inspire others. It's a wonderful and important book and a crucial message in our age of being over-scheduled, over-whelmed, and over-run. Thanks, Steve!

A great reminder for HR Professionals
I greatly enjoyed HR on Purpose! This is a quick, easy read with impactful takeaways. As a 10+ year professional in the field of HR, it can be difficult at times to see above the often times negative and regulatory aspects of HR. Steve provides a refreshing take on how to rise above, and reminded me of why I went into this challenging and rewarding field in the first place--because I am fascinated by people and want to connect with others! Thanks for the much-needed reminder!

Fun read, in a normally “not-fun” field of literature
I just finished my latest HR read, “HR on Purpose.” This book did not seek to revolutionize the industry we work in. Instead, Steve Browne, SHRM-SCP (in my opinion) was attempting to shift our focus on the role of being in HR versus the job we do.“To be a safe haven in HR is something that is needed because your people are aching for someone who will acknowledge them, believe in them, and give them the time of day. It is honestly the best part of being in Human Resources. Providing a pace that is nonjudgmental, open, and empathetic will transform you personally as well as redefine your organization.”This was a great, fun read and a refreshing change from the sometimes, very business-like tone of most HR literature. I highly recommend it. #humanresources #hrprofessional #shrm #readingisfun

I'm Geeked About This Book!
If you want to be a great HR leader (or just a great leader) you should read this book! What I like best about HR On Purpose is the simple, practical leadership stories. That may seem strange for a book on HR (and might have something to do with my own focus on leadership) but one of Steve's primary points is that HR folks - like all leaders - have to focus on people, not policies and compliance.Steve shares stories from his own experiences coming up as a "lone wolf" HR Department. His story about his first boss, who gave him an interesting "orientation ultimatum," explains a lot about his focus on getting to know his people. Another story - near and dear to my heart because it perfectly illustrates the importance of leader approachability that I discuss in my own work. I highlighted dozens of stories and quotes. If you know Steve at all you know his favorite word is "geeked" - and I was geeked to read this book. Whether you are an HR leader or just a leader of people, you'll find a ton of practical guidance here!

Awesome and Motivational
This is an awesome book that gives perspective into HR and motivates you to go head on to improving yourself and your career On Purpose. I like the way that Mr. Browne breaks downs his experiences and brings to life the same things which HR professionals go through on a daily basis. A great read and would recommend to persons new to the Hr field or persons who feel to give up and need to reevaluate and renew their purpose and commitment to HR

Great read and re-read!
We can all benefit from Steve's writing as he shares his real world experiences in this book. I read this this book cover to cover and now pick it up each day to read a section. Some of it makes me laugh, but mostly keeps me grounded and is a constant reminder to listen and connect to others with intention. Great read and re-read!

I’m Geeked about HR
I’m 4 years in to my HR career, and with all the challenges that 2020 brought, I found myself with time to burn (hospitality business closed due to COVID -19 regs). Was looking for motivation and this book provides that in spades.I could relate so much to Steve, from having been in a department of one and wanting to change the way HR is viewed. My passion is people, just like Steve’s which is an obvious take away from the book - so was great to feel I had connected to a like minded individual through the medium of reading :)Weather you are curious about HR, just starting out in the field, or need a little reminder what we do this all for, this is the book for you.

Good book, could be excellent
The author knows the stuff and is able to make explain it very well. He quotes many examples from his work experience and many of them are relatable. It would have been awesome if he could have shared some experiences from outside his work, which would have provided a third person perspective also.A nice read for HR people.

A must read book for HRs across the world.
If you are in HR and are passionate about people then this is your book. This is the most honest, straight from the heart HR Book I have ever come across. It doesnt talk about complex processes, charts, graphs, policies, AI etc. It talks about the most important and fundamental aspect of the HR profession, THE PEOPLE.Steve, has narrated examples from his personal experience and used them beautifully to express what today's HR should do, it is inspired. If you are ever wondering why you are in this profession to begin with, this book will take you on a journey of self discovery and give you a much needed perspective. His passion about people is contagious, it makes you leap out of your mundane routine and do so much more.HR is a tough profession to be in, as you have to juggle between so many hats however this book will equip with all the positives you need to make you see how much of a difference HR can make with in this commercially driven world of work.Cannot wait to read Steve's next work.

Geeked!!
Have read this twice now and it’s just as inspirational the 2nd time around. I believe the author must have an incredible memory for faces and names, he genuinely loves getting to know people, and after all, they are at the heart of the HR profession. Recommend reading if you need a boost of passion in your work life.
