Worth the buy
So far, so good I love this thing!Gives me distilled water without little effort on my part. It is a little hard to remove the piece to put the filter in, but that is no biggy since the filter doesn't have to be changed everyday. It is a little annoying that I have to clean it out after every cycle but it doesn't take long to clean the scaling at all. it did come with its own 'detergent' but I have no clue what the product actually is, or what's in it so I don't use it. The label on the container just has the instructions on how to use it written with poor grammar and nothing else.I bought a separate cleaner but before buying that, I just used vinegar, a microfiber towel and some elbow grease to clean it. The glass gallon it comes with was annoying to put together. there were no instructions on how the handle was suppose to attach and it took my forever to figure it out. There are also no tools to help tighten the screw on and nut on. I did it all using my fingers. That being said, I don't use the handle when the gallon is full because it doesn't seem very sturdy. The glass gallon is also not tempered. Per the manual that comes with this machine, the glass cannot go from room temperature to super cold or super hot because it can break. So don't freeze this or pour hot water into it.all, in all, this was definitely worth the price and is a great investment. I am glad I bought it!

Great. Heat really isn't a problem
This honestly is amazing, and I wish I knew about vapor distillers like this sooner. The water tastes just like bottled water. I saw complaints about the heat, but it's honestly not an issue at all (barely warm to the touch even after running for a few hours, and the heat to surrounding surfaces is very minimal). Perhaps this is a newer model, but I have other appliances that get a lot warmer (like the slow cooker and instant pot).A gallon of water (4 liters) is a lot, and the fact it only takes a little over 3 hours is amazing. We set a timer on our phone for only 3:20 min to ensure it doesn't boil down to nothing (easier to clean that way). My only complaint is having to unplug everything to clean it, but it's only a very minor hassle. A little bit of white vinegar mixed with water can be used to get any residue mineral deposits off (just let it soak for an hour, and can also do a cycle to clean the upper part too).Overall, it was well worth the cost (pays for itself within a couple of weeks). Would highly recommend this version in particular (with the glass pot - it's really thick glass).

Great distiller for the most part
I have been using this distiller for almost 6 months now and I love it. I distill about 8 gallons of water a week and it's still going strong but there are a couple things I don't like.1. I really hate that there isn't a handle to lift the top off. When you need to refill it like I do it is a pain to get the top off and then once it opens hot steam pours out right where your hands are. I have burned myself a few times now. There are other brands of distillers that have handles and I wish this one did too.2. I also wish the auto shut off would turn off when there was still a little water left in the bottom. I had read the reviews where people said they turn it off before its out of water so the leftover minerals don't burn onto the bottom but the first time I used it I forgot and now it has a slight burnt smell to it even when it's clean. It doesn't affect the water at all but if I forget and let it run out it will add a burnt taste to the water in the jug.3. The glass pitcher is annoying. I got so tired of it I rigged it to distill directly into a 4 gallon water bottle so I don't have to use the glass pitcher anymore. That being said I still have and would recommend it!

I just received a 120v electrical shock
THIS PRODUCT IS AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD!!!Jan 1, 2025 Edit: I heard back from VIVOHOME. They said they’ve "escalated this to their product team" and that they take safety seriously. I have no reason to doubt that so I’ll update this review in the future with any info I receive if relevant.(I also corrected two typos in the original below : in->on.)———Original review:This distiller arrived yesterday. After going through the directions I set it up and distilled my first gallon. Early this morning I distilled another and while ago was going to distill another gallon. Because of the layout of my kitchen I had it facing away from me in the counter - that allowed me to fill it from the tap on the right with the storage jar on the counter to the left, see the photos. I started it and began other things but then realized it was stopped. I checked and everything seemed fine so I thought I’d press the reset button, which was facing away from me in this orientation. As soon as I touched it I received an electrical shock at wall voltage. After unplugging it from the mains, I looked and the reset button cover and ‘frame’ were lying on the counter, again, see the photos. The reset button felt strange yesterday when I first unpacked it but I haven’t purchased one of these before and thought it could just be the way it’s designed; I don’t expect high end buttons or switches on something reasonably inexpensive. Upon inspection, one of the four ‘legs’ of the gray button was black as though it was burned.I’ve written VIVOHome and am waiting in a response. I also contacted Amazon but they seemed more interested in the return than the potentially life threatening problem; thank god I wasn’t touching a plumbing fixture when I pressed the uncovered reset. It appears to me this is one of those devices sold by many companies but obviously the same design. I’m returning this and suggest anyone think carefully before purchasing this or any of the many variations of this product!Because of the seriousness of my claim I just got out my Fluke and measured 118V at the uncovered reset button.
