Does what it says, easy install
My only fault with the installation is that with all elements installed, the shaft only has a few turns of grab. It is possible that my front door is thicker than usual. The motion sensor is provided as an add-on kit. I made use of the ball mount to point it sharply down to limit tripping on road traffic. It Both camera and sensor work through my sun-shielding screen door. I would appreciate a small ping when the sensor trips and the camera takes a picture, for when I'm waiting on a delivery. The picture quality stored on the micro SD card (max 32 GB, not supplied but necessary) is much better than can be shown on the display, but that's still adequate for identification. I really like that I don't have to stoop to see out the peephole anymore, simply push one central button.

Don’t buy it waste of money
A complete waste of money and time, it was the worst product I have bought in my life, the first thing that I had problem with it was the two extensions tubes that came with it were to small and didn’t fit to my door, so I had to buy a longer one, and at the end when I finished to install it and turned it on I found that the camera was not working, all the pictures were corrupted like you can see in the pictures

It has its limits.
I purchased us thinking that the image would cover the same amount of ground as my regular eyehole. It doesn’t. The eyehole could not see the floor I want to cover and that is about 15 feet.I have an enclosed apartment door in a hallway. With my original eye hole I am able to see all around 180° or just about. I’m having to install the motion detection could not be done aside from it being mounted directly onto the eyehole with the frame. I personally do not want to do the frame mounting because it shows what I have and I do want to capture people.Using the original eyehole will not make things better because of the magnifying setting it can blur it and will not have a clear picture.Don’t even try it.

Poor design for changing batteries that don't last
Batteries died within 2 months. Design is very poor for changing the batteries because you have to take it apart again.

Stunningly bad photo quality making it an expensive and generally useless device.
Good/clever design completely let down by comically bad picture quality. A lot of money for something that will likely turn out to be useless when really needed. Brinno have been "playing" this same game for years now. It's truly pathetic. An absolute pity nobody else comes up with a similar design but decent picture quality. Brinno would up their game or go out of business. Either one would work for me. Disgraceful.

Overall poor execution on a great idea.
Why did I buy this?I read the reviews and weighed my options as I live in an apartment building and am unable to place a camera in a public space such as the hall outside my front door. Stealing was rampant in my building and delivery was unreliable as, depending on the carrier, delivery times were inaccurate or falsified to meet time quotas (I am looking at you Amazon Logistic Contractors). I needed something to record deliveries and thieves. What version did I buy?Brinno Front Door Peephole Security Camera- Motion Detection - Knocking Sensor- Easy to Install- Superior Battery Life - Clear Image - Wire-Free - Digital Visitor Log- Black (SHC1000)Build Quality: 2/5The LED unit that goes inside the door seemed surprising solid despite being made from what is presumably a cheaper plastic. The outside ‘door knocker’ which holds the motion sensor was also cheap feeling. The ‘knocker’ handle was so light that if you tried to use it the inside knock sensor could not pick it up. The plastic is so light that if you lift the knocker it will not drop under its own weight. As something that is a first impression of who you are it screams paranoid on a budget. You cannot ‘upgrade’ the peephole eye but I will touch on that later.Setup Installation: 3/5This includes a peephole key making the process of removing the old peephole and installing the Brinno easy. Instructions are unclear at times but after a little trial and error during setup everything was working. The device lost contact with the motion sensor and built in knocker causing the need to reset everything a few times until it all worked.Functionality: 2/5This is where this device shines briefly then crashes. The idea of a peephole camera without the need to custom wire some Chinese spy camera to a raspberry pi is a welcoming solution. It even has an LED screen allowing me to see outside with a push of a button. Where is the crash? First, the motion worked for 24 hours and then stopped. Batteries and resyncing did not solve the problem. Second, all recording is localized on a microSD card. There is no way to access the camera remotely. Third, the knock sensor needs to be cranked to high as the Brinno does not seem to always pick up on knocks. Fourth, the camera itself is limited to a 120⁰ view. I cannot see the doormat in front of my door or packages placed there. I can, however, see my neighbors across the hall clearly. The motion sensor is also limited to 120⁰, but that is not as bad. The Brinno also take a moment, approx. 2-3 seconds, to begin recording. This can be frustrating as most carriers not seeking a signature drop and run and even if they knock and run you end up with a lot of ‘empty’ footage. What Brinno should change:First, increase the point of view from 120⁰ to 190⁰ or 200⁰. Hardware stores every have these for ≤$15. This device would be unbelievably helpful, assuming everything is working, to have 200⁰ of view. Second, make the knocker for the SHC1000 metal or the impact handle and part it hits metal. The quality is bad and just does not look, feel, or work well at all. Third, make a version with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. While you are at it give it a bigger screen. I would pay more to have those three boxes checked off. I honestly wouldn’t even care for a LED screen if I could access it from my phone or computer.TLDR: 2/5The cheap construction coupled with a limited 120⁰ view and faulty at best motion sensor makes this a great peephole LED but poor security device.

Not good
Low quality screen. Stepped video and motion is backwards. Motion detector doesn’t work. Contacted manufacturers who were unhelpful. Contacted Amazon who offered to replace it. Overall poor value for money. Only good feature is that it’s easy to see who’s at the door.

Overall Ok product but definitely not a cctv movie recorder
DOES NOT RECORD A PROPER MOVIE - takes snaps every second or so. You end up with a series of photos amalgamated into one file.Easy to install and start.Very sensitive to vibrations so much that when installed in appartment block on 2nd floor, it starts recording when somebody opens the door on ground floor level.
