OUR STORY We wanted to create a product that would contribute to making a smaller environmental impact and encourage others to rethink their plastic use. The American Dental Association recommends we replace our toothbrushes every 3-4 months... That's a lot of plastic when we consider our total U.S. population of over 325 million! Even if half the population doesn't change their toothbrush out every 3-4 months as recommended, that's still a lot of plastic going into our landfills, and that's where we come in... OUR MATERIALSOur toothbrush handle is made of 100% biodegradable Mao bamboo, which is an environmentally sustainable timber. This bamboo was grown in the subtropical monsoon climates of the Zhejiang Province in eastern China. The bamboo is heat treated to carbonize it's surface, giving it a quality finish and good service life. Our bristle material is Nylon, DuPont. "Wait a minute, this isn't completely plastic-free!" We know, and down below are our reasons why. Some companies utilize animal hair, most commonly boar/hog hair, to replace plastic use entirely on their products. While we one day want to be entirely plastic-free, animal hair can often be not as durable or effective for teeth as Nylon/DuPont bristles for several reasons: Individual hair thickness and length is not uniform. The porous nature of the bristles makes contamination more probable. Their absorbency makes rapid wear and deterioration more likely. OUR FUTUREWhile our current route isn't 100% plastic-free as we would like, we hope to create a completely biodegradable product in the near future. With ever changing technology and innovative replacements for plastics, it is possible for a better product and better world. We hope our consumers will bear with us until then!
