Great looking VU Meter
This is nice VU meter and works very well. I like that you have 34 colors of backlight available. I'm not sure why they didn't provide for a large range of blue colors. Only a few of very weak light blues available. If you like Red, Green, Yellow, or Orange you should be happy. The meters work fine and provides a visual indication of each channel. I will mention that the first ET-30 I purchased had one of the meters backlight go out after only a few hours o use.

This is pretty much exactly what it should be.
I have no complaints, other than the blue color doesn't appear very blue, due to the yellow plates behind the VU meters. Other than that, this works well, and seems solid. The unit will still allow sound to be passed through when it's turned off, and that's something important I didn't see mentioned in the description, or even in the manual, so I thought it was worth mentioning here. For reference, when the unit is plugged in but is "turned off" with no meter activity, and no lights on, sound from my "B" amp posts gets through to my "2" speaker posts. I haven't messed around with different configurations or unplugging the unit. This was important to me, because I also run my TV audio through my amp/speaker setup, and I didn't want to have to turn on one more thing just to watch TV. I can just turn this on when I want to listen to music with the bouncing meters or switch over to other speakers. The meters are very configurable on swing range and sensitivity, meaning they're not going to be accurate, but what can you expect? This also means that the meter knob settings for one amp/speaker combo probably won't work well for another setup, which could be annoying, I guess. As far as the sound quality goes, I certainly can't hear any distortion or coloring of the sound that goes through this. That makes sense, since you can find a review of this unit at AudioScienceReview dot com that proves this is a transparent unit. Honestly, I got this because I wanted physically bouncing meters in my setup. Probably not worth the money just for that, but who asked you? It's my money and I can waste it however I want. It's definitely a solid A/B switcher, though, so if you're into that kind of thing, then it's definitely worth the asking price.

It's fantastic, but...
Almost a 5 start product. I rarely rate things 5 stars. This item allows me to switch between amps and speakers to listen to and compare different products. I don't care about the meters or LED lights. I LOVE the ability to switch between amps or speakers with the click of a remote without leaving my seat. It is a revelation to hear gear immediately through different gear when listening to a song. Getting up to change speakers or amps introduces a time lag which makes it harder to hear differences. It gives so much clearer of a comparison. So why only 4 stars? For the most part one can adjust the sources (the amps in this case) to provide the same level of output if using a preamp or an integrated amp. But if you are listening to a single amp and comparing two speakers, there's no way to level match them. Depending on their efficiency, one speaker set may be much louder than the other, so it requires an adjustment of sound level to truly compare two sets of speakers. Speakers that are more efficient will sound louder, and that can trick you into thinking they sound more open, dynamic...better. But that may not be the actual case if you were able to listen at the same level. So I'm sorry this doesn't have level matching options. But...that's kinda niggling because it would be hard to do that well at speaker output levels. Still... In short, I'm happy to have spent the money on this, but would love to have something that allows a more direct comparison of speakers.

Bought for the VU meters - keeping it for the invaluable education!
Product is great, highly recommend! Amir at audio science review couldn't find fault with it in his testing so I bought one to try out. Using this I have been able to test for sonic differences between many different amplifiers that range in price from $150 - $4000 that, prior to testing, I would have swore all sound differently. When being able to immediately switch with the push of a button, with a remote, from the comfort of my couch, I found that a $4k yamaha as2100 integrated amp (10 watts class A) with linear power supply sounded exactly the same as a $1200 Rotel 1552 MK1 class A/B with switching power supply, which sounded exactly the same as a Hegel H190 and a Marantz model 30 (Hypex class D)! All the Youtube reviewers say these amps should sound significantly different but because of this unit I now know what ABX testing has shown, that well made amplifiers sound the same. FIRST TEST: AMPLIFIER TEST: Minidsp Flex as DAC and preamp -> 3 test amplifiers SPEAKERS: 1. Original Von Schweikert VR-4's ($4k circa 1995) 2. $6k Polk L800's AMPLIFIERS: 1. Hegel H190 (Class AB, switching power supply) 2. Marantz model 30 (Hypex class D) 3. Yamaha as2100 (5 watts class A, 90 watts class AB, linear power supply) 4. Rotel 1552 MK1 (Class AB, switching power supply) RESULT: No difference! No detail or tonal difference whatsoever. Nothing that we could detect. SECOND TEST: PREAMP TEST: MiniDSP -> Marantz/Hegel/Yamaha -> Rotel 1552 RESULT: No difference in preamp sections! THIRD TEST: DAC TEST: Minidsp Flex - Rotel 1552 MK1 VS Hegel H190 This was the only test that yielded results. The Minidsp sounds great but the imaging was extremely narrow. Hegel added breadth to the soundstage. It sounded much larger. Also, added a sense "airiness". I have learned more about audio in a week of testing out various components with this ET30 than I have in a life time of listening. Highly recommend. UPDATE: I've done more tests. FOURTH TEST: DAC SHOOTOUT: SPEAKERS: Polk Legend L800 Canton (not sure model but are a very detailed $4k model from a about 5 years ago) DAC's Denefrips Ares II ($1k) Schiit Bifrost ($850) Topping D50 ($300?) RESULTS We could hear no differences between these DACs on either system!!! FIFTH TEST: Hegel H190 ($4k) vs Fosi audio ZA3 amp and ZD3 DAC (total $300) SPEAKERS: Von Schweikert VR-4 RESULT: I could hear no difference between these two systems!!!! CONs: The Neohipo ET30 is starting to make an audible popping noise when switching between systems and the remote is starting to become less responsive but still going strong and saving me thousands of dollars as I sell my expensive equipment and replace with affordable but equally good equipment.

Neohipo ET30 First Impressions I have lusted after the little unit for some time. It has a cool retro look yet contains the modern electronics we demand. The VU meters are amazing. They have sensitivity and swing range settings. This is a great feature as you can set them up to move exactly where you want them to on the scale. They are large enough that you can sit in your chair and still see them. The final touch is the variable colour selection. You can literally make them any colour you want! Trust me you will love this feature. I really like the remote control. I thought it was unnecessary but when I am comparing 2 sets of speakers it is indispensable. You can click between then while in the perfect listening spot to really determine how they compare. You can even change the colour of the meters from your seat. Another interesting feature of this unit is the microphone pickup. It actually works very well and with the sensitivity and swing range adjustments it provides more than enough volume to make the VU meters dance at any volume. You can literally plug in the power and itnis good to go for a nice light show. I know, I know you aren't buying this for dancing meters and flashy coloured lights. Well trust me once you see people's reaction you may rethink that idea. I don't currently have two amps connected to the unit but the specs say it has protection circuitry to easily switch between 2 amps without and issues. The actual speaker connectors are nice and large with screw connectors rather then the little spring types. The benefits are that you can manage to connect that slightly larger gauge speaker cable that some people insist on. Overall this unit feels solid and well made. It has a metal case and a bit of heft so you know it is not plastic junk. Controls and connectors are solid and appear durable. If I had any complaint I guess I wish you could have both sets of speakers on at the same time. It does not allow this option. It is easy to work around it but this would make it perfect in my book. My final comment is about the customer service that I received from Neohipo. I had a bad remote on my first unit. Neohipo were beyond helpful and actually swapped me for another brand new unit to ensure there were no problems. In summary this is a sharp well made unit that does exactly what it is supposed to do. It looks great while doing it. The features are well thought out, intuitive and work well. You won't be disappointed. Chris Morris

This is the first time I have ever reviewed a product but I felt compelled to do so in this instance as its such a great unit. Firstly its very well packed and is very simple to set up even if you don't read the instructions which if you do are clear and concise and inform you of everything you need to know. When its comes to practicality it is easy to use. It has numerous colour options and brightness settings to add a bit of visual flair to the meters, you can also turn the lights off. You can adjust the pointer swing and swing range manually, you also have two automatic settings, one for lower sensitivity and swing rage, one for higher sensitivity and swing rage. You can turn the microphone on and off which also has very good sensitivity and can pick up my main speakers from quite far away. The unit also makes an audible click when changing from one amplifier to another and from one pair of speakers to another. It also has separate lights indicating which amplifier and which pair of speakers you are using and if the microphone is on or off. These operations can be performed from either the unit or remote control which has a pretty good range. One thing to note is you can only turn the unit off using the remote control. I would also add that it is powered by a USB connection, for me that's great as with a extended USB cable I can hook it up to my PC but some might find it inconvenient not being able to plug it directly into a socket. The build quality is very good with firm connectors, metal construction, good quality dials and large rubber feet to avoid scratching if you place it on another Hi-Fi unit, its also not very large so it does not take up too much room. All in all I highly recommenced this VU meter if you are after the practicality it affords but want some visual flair rather than a small black box like some others on the market.

Super !
