Beautiful book! Add this to your family library.
This has been a great first book! Our 1 year old tries to find the yellow bus on each page and has learned to point it out. Great for reading readiness. The message is reminiscent of the Giving Tree. Sweet story, but the illustrations are what endeared the book to me.

Must Have Book
We purchased this book after having read a New York Times article on the author-illustrator. Loren Long. What an amazing book! I love the story line and the beautifully illustrated pages. Our 7 year old grandson doesn't tire of "reading" the pictures along with the story. The illustrations are loaded with subjects to talk about, along with the peaceful refrain that repeats throughout the book, "And they filled her with joy." This book fills us with joy. Thanks, Loren Long. Another great children's book.

Loved Make Way for Ducklings? Then buy The Yellow Bus for all the kids in your life! Classic.
The back story of how the book was envisioned and developed is just as interesting as the book , which is saying a lot.I was searching for a school bus book for my bus loving 2 yr old granddaughter . Seems all preschoolers love school buses, and I caught a clip of this book being reviewed on 60 Minutes along with the video of the author building the set and writing/ illustrating this to-be classic . It’s a story of eternal optimism , blooming where you happen to be and everything will turn out fine . It carries the child through the productive life of a happy school bus doing important work in the community for diverse groups of people. The ending is joy itself. And don’t miss the video online of the back story with author/ illustrator explaining and showing his workshop of the giant replica of scenes in the book that he built for reference in painting the pages.A classic.

Beautiful artwork, story also beautiful
My son has been obsessed with saying 'yellow bus!' for a month or two now, so this book was perfect. The art is beautiful and the story is sad in that way kid's stories can punch you in the heart, but it has what I think is a happy ending! He'll probably be able to listen more at 3 than now, but he appreciates the illustrations already. Beautiful book

Beautiful and powerful.
Oh my goodness every pre-schooler needs to read this. It's written in such an easy-to-understand way for little minds to grasp how special it is. The illustrations are remarkable. And the positive ending is beyond delightful.Every Grandmother needs this adorable book in her children's library too. Thank you!!!

Nice illustrations, story too complex for toddler
Illustrations are consistent with the imaginary town, but the story is over a toddler's head. I may try it again in a couple of years. Also, I feel the book was overhyped and, at the time I purchased it, overpriced.
