Great quality, nice fit and not too tight on the crotch. Extremely warm and comfortable, not itchy. Ideal.

Not a great design.
It would be great to have a fly there. My wife had to do it herself.

Versatile, comfortable, nicely shaped, a new Winter essential
I’m not accustomed to wearing thermal leggings, but it took me all of about five minutes to get past the fact that they initially feel like wearing tights (which I don’t wear) and to appreciate the benefits of these leggings. They are soft, comfortable, and the thermal properties are quickly obvious- but they aren’t sweatpants, and the wool fabric lets you feel warm, like having an extra layer on, but without trapping air and sweat inside in a way that would make them uncomfortable. The product description makes reference to the fact that these leggings have been re-designed to allow more movement. I can confirm that the movement is absolutely fine in these. Wearing them underneath jeans, there’s no regular everyday movement that these leggings stop me doing. Not only are they invisible under jeans so nobody knows I’m wearing them, it can reach the point where I forget I’m wearing them, as they’re so comfortable. The shape is good for me. I’m not the thinnest when it comes to the thighs, but the size and stretch of these feels appropriate and I don’t feel squeezed. The length of the leg is just a little longer than I needed, but wrinkling them up slightly above the ankle (as the product photo even shows) is no problem at all, and doesn’t result in any problem fabric clumps. They also don’t present any problems when it comes to needing the bathroom, shall we say. They are definitely an under-layer though, and won’t replace normal trousers or jeans, not for me at any rate. The look of them is too tight to be nicely modest, and wearing them without something on top feels like wearing a theatrical costume, and quite showy. The thermal properties also suffer if they’re open to the air, and they do start behaving more like regular tights. They are sheer black, and quite deep black too. I could wear these under jogging shorts and it would go unremarked. I like the modest style of them. These are a premium product, and at time of writing, they’re at a premium price, at sixty-five quid. So they’re certainly a bit of an investment. But if you’re kitting yourself up with a lot of ski wear or other sports wear, then this is a very sensible item to add to the kit- and it will have a lot of versatility, not just on your trip but after you get home as well. While I’d normally baulk at the idea of paying sixty-five quid for some leggings, these ones have really surprised me.

Reminiscent of cold-weather running leggings but they do the job
These undergarments are marketed as “long-john thermal pants” but they seem more like nice winter-wear outdoor running tights/leggings as they feel and fit a lot like some I have. I say that because they are more of a snug-fitting thick stretch legging when you put them on, whereas I was expecting something more ‘wool-feel’ and not so fitted. I go to the gym a lot, and do cycling and running, so I don’t have bean-pole legs, and I find them almost like compression tights. That’s not to say that the fit is a negative, but anyone expecting something a little more relaxed or with some size on their legs might need to consider this. They are nice and warm to wear under other clothes - almost excessively so for anyone who doesn’t naturally struggle with the cold. The manufactured quality is top notch, with a considered profile and shape, consistent and durable-looking stitching, and just a general air of premium about them. For a price of c. £50 (at time of review) they are unashamedly premium, and being made in New Zealand they’ve come a long way to reach UK shores, but if you’re looking for something of quality that will surely last then they seem like a good option.

Excellent Merino Wool Thermal Long Johns from Brass Monkeys
Premium Merino Wool Thermal Long Johns from Brass Monkeys. This brand is native to New Zealand and appear to be a family ran company with ethical hand made production techniques rather than their garments being made in sweatshops.First impressions were great, the quality is excellent and though the price is high I personally think they offer excellent value for money. The merino wool is both lightweight yet robust and keeps it's size and shape well after being washed. They're comfortable to wear and can be worn under jeans or work pants without any issues. Performance wise they're great too, they've kept me nice and warm this winter and the merino wool is breathable too so I haven't noticed any excess sweating whilst wearing them. I don't find them itchy to wear and can definitely tell the difference when I take them off. These are without a doubt the best thermal undergarments that I've worn and I'd happily recommend them. The quality and performance is excellent and I feel they're well worth a 5 star review.
