These chainmail voiders are crafted from dome riveted round rings which alternate with solid flat rings. The individual rings are 18 gauge in thickness and 9 mm in diameter and blackened for a finish. These panels of mail are intended to be sewn onto the sides and underarm of a gambeson to give it additional protection, particularly when worn beneath plate armor to provide mail protection in regions not easily covered by plate alone.
