This comes in TWO pieces. The top part is threaded and screws into the bottom part. It is pretty flimsy. I wouldn't purchase another one. There are sturdier flag holders at Amazon.

I have a metal sign9" w with a hole at either end. Can it be hung on this pole?

I think you would need something to attached the sign to the pole for it to hang, like a little piece of chain. Otherwise I don't think it would work.
