Great book series for any football fan.
I was unsure whether my 9 year old son would enjoy this book as there wasn't many pictures in the story and there is was alot of text. He is usually a fan of diary of the wimpy kid because of the illustrations within the book but my son was totally gripped by this book and quickly asked for me to buy the next in the series (unfortunately this is the last one!). He loved the theme of the story (he is an avid football fan) and found the wording easy to understand and the story was entertaining and easy to follow. I feel the price was a little on the expensive side but I happily bought all 3 books in the series. I would definitely recommend. I will hold on to this series for his younger brother.Give it a try for your little football fan.

Brilliantly written - will work for a wide age span
There is nothing like the feeling of finishing reading an amazing book with your kid. We just finished this 3rd book tonight and we loved it but have that sad feeling that we'll really miss it. My 9 year old is literally acting out the football moves as we read. This book has given us a great opportunity to discuss things like what it's like to be a true leader, and how things not going to plan can become your greateat opportunity. I cannot praise this series enough.I'm a secondary school English teacher and ordered it for our library without hesitation. I know kids up to about 14 will get into these. There's a real potential that they'll make readers out of those who thought they'd never find a book for them. And they're quality books.

Love these books!
Haven't read this one yet, but the first two were so good! Our soccer obsessed 8yr old has picked up lessons about hard work, practice, balance, etc. Also aggressive coaches, mean teammates, how to be a good friend. It's a great conversation starter.

Amazing series for young football fans
Excellent read! My 3 kids (7y - 13y) and I really enjoyed reading series 1-3 and are so much looking forward to the release of book no. 4. We just can't stop reading about Leo's exciting football adventures.

Another winner from T.Z Layton!
The third instalment of, 'The Academy' series by T.Z Layton is another winning book detailing the youth football adventures of Leo .K. Doyle. This time, everyone's favourite 'yank' is in Europe and, whilst the vivid descriptions of European cities and edge-of-your seat football games keep you enthralled throughout, perhaps the most intriguing part of this book is the mystery that runs throughout it. My 9yo and I are reading it together and we're thoroughly enjoying ourselves, theorising who the culprit(s) may be! As much as we love Leo, experiencing JoJo's character develop so brilliantly in this third instalment of, 'The Academy' is an absolute joy. My son and I literally cannot wait for book 4! Highly recommended!
