Excellent Camping Hatchet
I spent a lot of time studying the different hatchets and axes on Amazon and other sites. I wanted a durable working hatchet, not some cosplay prop. I almost went with the all steel Estwing but I felt it was too lightweight. After browsing for about 3 weeks, I decided on this Mastiff Gears hatchet after considering the design, price point, weight, durability, reputation, and a few other features. It has a good working-weight at almost 2 lbs but won't wear you out. It's drop-forged and electric quenched. The cheek angles and thickness are good for both cutting and splitting. The thickness of the steel around the eye (hole) is better than most other hatchets so using the butt end as a hammer won't easily deform the eye. That makes it less likely for the head to work loose unless it is abused or damaged by an inexperienced user. Hickory makes the best axe handle if the grain is oriented correctly. It won't break unless you miss and strike the handle against a hard object too often. The carbon steel bit is convex ground, which I do not like. I quickly reground the edge to my own liking. The hatchet did not arrive sharp, as many contributors have already stated, but that is probably by design. The manufacturers do that on purpose so an inexperience or careless user does not slice his hand by clowning around. A good bastard file sharpens the edge with some light work. The handle comes sloppily coated with a cheap clear lacquer or varnish. The lacquer finish was uneven and clearly showed dried drip lines. It looked like they dipped the handle in a tub of clear lacquer and hung it up to dry. Lacquer made the handle slippery and unsightly. I sanded off all the ugly stuff and exposed the beautiful hickory wood within 30 minutes. I then treated the wood to a few coats of boiled linseed oil. The end result is beautiful and more durable. The linseed oil penetrates the wood, causing it to swell a little at the microscopic level, which in turn, keeps the wood from drying out and the axe head from working loose. Two refreshing treatments of linseed oil per year will make the hickory last forever. I expect this hatchet to last for a lifetime without ever replacing the handle. It cuts, chops, and splits exactly as I predicted. Don't forget a thin coat of light oil on the steel head to prevent rust when not in use. I recommend this hatchet for experience campers and woodsmen.

Best axe I ever owned.
Dwarven Axe - I recently purchase 3 other brand axes from Amazon. All were poorly made. Misaligned handles, bent blades, unevenly forged heads, not the least bit sharp and poor fitment of the handle to the head of the axe. All were returned. The Dwarven axe is close to perfect. The head is evenly forged only the tiniest of imperfections can be seen. It came super sharp, and the edge is polished. The handle to head fit is way above average no spaces anywhere. The handle is thick enough for a good grip even for someone with larger hands. I am pleased with the sheath, the leather is thick, and it fits well and it did not cost extra.I have not had time to try it outdoors, I literally just received it and am so excited I had to sit down and write a review. Now, do I buy the Orcish axe or another Dwarven ?

SAHP Woodcarver’s Dream Budget Hatchet
The media could not be loaded. This hatchet has a great weight, balance, and edge out of the mail. Doesn’t require the mods I did, just personal preference- I do recommend getting a sharpening stone, puck, or series of sandpaper to refine the edge just for safe use, but that’s all hatchets, axes, knives. Hickory handle seems good, not 100% confident in the gain of this one specifically (will likely split a bit at the hand hold, should I let it wet often) but honestly for the price it’s still a 5 star for me.

Great hatchet for the price
I purchased this hatchet to compliment my viking cosplay. But I also wanted something functional so I could take it camping. A few test chops and it feels sturdy.

Horrible Wavy edge
The edge is wavy, horrible grind and loose head and the sheath won’t snap closed, you would think for the price you would at least get a decent hatchet, trust me the picture shows a lot better grind on the edge than what you get, it is horrible, like three waves in the edge from one end to the other, and another thing the sheath doesn’t have a welt in it, maybe the waves in the edge were too fit between the rivets lolHonestly I thought I would be getting a decent hatchet ready to use, but that wasn’t the case, I do not recommend spending the money on this unless you want to fix the edge and tighten the head up and make another sheath for it, very disappointed and unhappy with this purchase.Another thing about the sheath it doesn’t have a welt and a rivet is missing and cut my handbecause the edge was sticking out of the sheathEdit: seller sent a full refund, that’s good business and I will give another chance. It’s good to know that some people still stand behind their product.

no complaints
It arrived ahead of time in excellent new condition,Sheath fits perfect, no complaints, the main thing that I looked at was 2 German seals GS means tested safety and the TUV is a technical institute of oversight, its the same as for cars that have to pass a strict vehicle safety and emissions test every 2 years. Its got a nice weight distribution to it, a bit better than my Stihl hatchet.

Pequeña y práctica
El hacha está bonita, pero venía emplayada de forma que el plástico quedó pegado al mango y al metal y fue muy difícil quitarlo. Además no estaba nada afilada. Tuve que hacer varias cosas antes de dejarla funcional

Excellent Hatchet !
Nicely balanced and weighted for easy single hand use. The grip area of the handle is the perfect hatchet diameter and not too thick like some short axes. The head came plastic wrapped to prevent rusting and perhaps against wood shrinkage that might loosen the head. There was a slight film of dried linseed oil on the head but that was easily removed with thinners and a razor blade and I have no problem with this overall. The blades cutting edge is supper sharp to a Chrome like finish which looks great with the steel embossed logo.Overall a nice hatchet for making kindling and light limbing and I’m very happy to have it !

Excellent axe, though needs sharpening
I bought this axe after I had another one ordered on Amazon, watched a Youtube video of it where the head fell off the handle. A second video showed the same thing. This one however had good reviews and I was not disappointed. Once I sharpened it it cut like a dream and the blade cover is both useful and rugged. Didn't bother with the paracord but hey everyone needs more paracord around the house am I right?
