Neal Preston: Exhilarated and Exhausted

When one buys a book by one of the most iconic rock and roll photographers of all time, one certainly expects stunning images - and in that regard this work doesn't disappoint. But what I certainly didn't expect was page after page of stories, reminiscences and anecdotes, all beautifully written. Sometimes deep and heartfelt, sometime light and funny, Mr Preston truly captures the essence of what it was like to be on the road with some of the biggest bands in the world. The book itself is a thing of beauty - lovely paper, carefully bound, and a true work of publishing art.If like me you are a lover of classic rock music and especially concerts, I cannot recommend this book highly enough, you won't be disappointed - I wish there were six stars!

It's simply the best thing ever! If you love rock & roll than this book is for you. It connects some of the most iconic images of rock history to the brilliant artist Neal Preston who took these photos. Neal's writing is raw, candid and links the legends or the classic rock generation to today's artists. It's a living history of music by one of the most poetic and talented​ rock and roll photographers ever.

I saw Neal Preston's photographs online and in a gallery, and this book lets me view all of his best work . The book is well produced and has amazing print quality of his best works. I highly recommend it if you are fan of music and want a coffee table book that will be interesting to look at not just once, but over and over again. It is that good!

This is an amazing piece of history for anyone who loves music. Buy it for your clients, your parents, your friends, your kids( and teach them the history of rock and roll)... buy it for yourself and take a journey back in time or finally take yourself on the road and be “ with the band” as you read this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone with a beating heart. I honestly bought two. One for me and one for my teen daughter,who loves classic rock as much as I do. That way when she leaves the nest, she can take it with her.

Incredibly well stated and well written journey of one of the All Time Great rock and roll photo journalists. The stories of the engagements all bring us back to the rugged job and magical moments captured therein. This covers all the bases of being of being a fly on the wall, with the gifted photographers eye and mastery. Told with candor, humor and true gratitude for the wonderful times and terror filled moments of the rock and roll circus. Buy it for a great Christmas Gift , or as an addition kit your Art Library. Read it all for some wonderful insight and inspiration.

The pictures are great, for sure. I read (and looked at) the entire book in one evening. Certainly some good stories but - obviously - it's the photographs that "make" it.I have a lot of rock music books and this one is placed in the middle of my coffee table for everyone to see it.

I buy this book often as gifts for birthdays and holidays for my friends that love music. Neal Preston never disappoints!

I love all the photos. I was surprised that so many of the ones I am familiar with were taken by Neal Preston (I never knew who took them before). I love reading the story behind the photo. I first heard about this book when I listened to him on the Marc Maron WTF podcast.

I bought this book as Neal Preston is my biggest inspiration and the reason I picked up a camera in the first place. Preston makes the musicians he shoots look like the Gods they sound like on record, simple as that. The print quality is second to none - really heavy pages that allow the photographs to come alive.The added bonus to this and what I didn't expect was the insightful text that was missing in his previous book. Preston's memories and experiences laid bare providing context and connection to and with his work.This is an amazing tome and well worth your time and money.

Stunning images across decades. A whistle stop tour of the good and the great. A whistle stop tour through all the Concerts you wished you’d been to, I can tick off a few of them but this book fills in the gaps.

This is a superb book. Fantastic quality and stunning pictures. Bought as a present and I'm really pleased.
