Works well and is affordable
Very easy to use. Just push down into the tire tread to get your reading. This is way more affordable than some of the over engineered electronic ones. I definitely recommend. It is small enough to fit in your cars glovebox.

Great for the glove compartment
Easier to read than the ones I use at work since it has the colors on them. And my mother can use it without guessing what the numbers mean. Great little tool to keep in the glove compartment. Highly recommend.

Simple, yet effective tool, VERY affordable
The Verdict:RECOMMENDThe GOOD:- Excellent value- Easy to use- Color coding is a great idea- Pocket clip for storage- Surprisingly accurateThe BAD:- Nothing to noteChanges to get 5-stars:- Can't really think of anythingBottom Line:If you need a tool to tell you the tread depth of your tires, or anything else in 32nds of an inch this is your tool. It is budget friendly for anyone and the color coding makes it super simple to use.Details: I figured these wouldn't be the most accurate tool for the budget price they go for. I checked them against my digital calipers and was shocked to find out they are within 0.004"-0.006". For those that this means nothing to, these basically read accurately within the thickness of a sheet of paper. Not bad for the price. Both of mine were exactly the same and had no issues. The pocket clip is tight and would hold this tool where you put it. Since most of the time you don't really care exactly how much tread is left, you just need to know that you have enough, the color coding is perfect. Green means no worries. Yellow should get your attention, and red, well you're rolling the dice. For the price you can't really go wrong and they are more than accurate enough for the job they are designed to do.************************************************My Rating Scale:5 STARS - Item worked better than advertised and exceeded my expectations. The item provided more value than I anticipated and is a great deal. The item seems very well made and should last for a long time. (HIGHLY recommend)4 STARS - Item worked exactly as expected if not slightly better. Item appears to be made well. I have no major complaints, it just didn't exceed my expectations (Good value, well made, met expectations, would recommend)3 STARS - Item worked as expected without any surprises, good or bad, and did what I expected it to do (met expectations; might recommend if a good value)2 STARS - Item easily wore out or didn't work as well as described, was disappointing for the price, and/or was of poor quality (might return if expensive; would not recommend).1 STAR - Item easily broke/failed, did not match description and was not useful or did not worked as described (do not buy; return if possible; would not recommend; junk/waste of money).

Depth gage for tires
Can accurately measure tread on tires, color coded green yellow and red. Red of course means danger, time for new tires. Yellow is caution think of replacing soon. Green is great to go. Cheap enough, I think everyone should have one or two.

JOYCOURT Car Tire Tread Depth Gauge - time for change?
When is it time to buy new tires for your car or truck? You want to get the most value out of your existing tires but you don't want to wait until they are dangerous to drive on. The decision usually comes down to tire tread wear. A tread depth gauge can accurately measure the remaining tread on your tires. The JOYCOURT Car Tire Tread Depth Gauge is a low cost yet accurate tool to measure the remaining tread on your tires. The gauge is color coded with green (safe to go), yellow (caution - plan for new tires), and red (change them now!). The yellow warning zone is from 5/32" to 3/32". Red is less than that. I checked the accuracy with a caliper and it is right on.To measure your tire tread, you place the flat area of the gauge on the tire tread and press the pin into the groove. Do this on the most shallow groove on your tire. Mine was the center groove and it showed about 4/32" which means I had better plan to buy new tires soon. When the tread is worn down you are more susceptible to hydroplaning when it rains and increased braking distances. In most states, a tire is legally worn out at 2/32", but its ability to stop is severely compromised at 4/32". In snow conditions, traction noticeably diminishes at 6/32" tread depth. A new car tire typically has a tread depth of 10/32 or 11/32 inches while a light truck will have between 11/32 and 19/32 inches.I guess it is time for a tire change!

Perfect glove box companion.
Know what a tire tread depth measures with the push in seconds. 32 seconds that is. What you get - A pair of tire tread depth gauges graduated in 32nds of an inch. Shown next to my old timer tire gauge, (1980's vintage), these are a common size with a taped on printed scale. The plastic octagon plunger sits within a metal barrel and has a composite foot that sits atop the tire tread for ease of use. They are reasonably accurate and very well priced for the pair. I like 'em well enough and will be handing them off for my kids to place in their autos.
