A huge challenge presented by the new specification is the need for students to memorise formulae that they are no longer given in the exam. Let's face it, students aren't usually great at remembering formulae - how many times have you had to remind them to halve for the area of a triangle...? - so these mats have been designed to keep the formulae right in front of students during their lessons, hopefully aiding in their recall. Suggestions for use: - Put out one per table every Y10/11 lesson. Get students used to checking it when appropriate. - Use it as a starter, by asking students to find information from the mat as quickly as possible (encouraging memorisation). - Set a section as learning homework - students could take a photo - and test them on it. - Use the mats for a collective memory task. Students can flip the mat, look at it for 1 minute, then have to turn it over, and try to recreate it as closely as possible. Repeat as required. - Allow students to use the mats during an open-book test, to support and build confidence.
