Draw: Teach Yourself How In 30 Lessons

I am pleased to give the seller, Ollie's, five stars--the "used" book arrived quickly, in perfect condition. It doesn't appear to have been used at all. If it were not for the seller's sticker on the back, I could give or sell it as a new book.I bought it because of the 30-lesson promise. I am currently at Day 24 in YOU CAN DRAW IN 30 DAYS by Mark Kistler, and am completely astonished at the progress I have made. 25 days ago I was one of those people who could not draw at ALL, and now I can draw roses, lilies, houses, towers, trees, ocean waves, waving flags--all COMPETENTLY! No, I have not been turned into an artist, but I am producing artifacts I would not be ashamed to show as illustrations of a product, for example. Samples, not the kind of brilliant work professionals produce--but something I could show a professional artist, expecting the real artist to take that and run with it. As a professional WRITER, I have often dreamed of being able to show a cover artist an idea of what I would like to see--words simply don't do it.Looking into Spicer's DRAW: TEACH YOURSELF HOW IN 30 LESSONS, I feel rather intimidated--the illustrations look far more complex and artistic than anything I have yet attempted. But I felt the same way a number of times while working my way through Kistler's book, and each time I was able to produce something beyond my expectations. I bought Spicer's book to continue in the direction I have begun, and it looks as if it can lead me forward.

I am part way through the book. I'm enjoying it so far. I am trying to teach myself to draw so that I can watercolor paint more - which is where my art love resides for now. This book breaks down its lessons into small chunks that are not intimidating to this thirty-something engineer type. I look forward to checking out more of this author's books once I finish this one.I also like his approach of working with what you've got. "Draw your shoes." It's not complicated, not intimidating, not too terribly boring. Thanks!

Another Spicer book and excellent as was expected. Glad I added it to my library.

If you are an absolute beginner you might consider buying this book. If you have some experience don't. You won't learn anything.
