Civil Engineering PE Practice Exams: 2 Full Breadth Exams

This book was well worth the purchase. I spent a good amount of time reading reviews of the available PE practice exam books and almost every book available has mediocre reviews, often citing needlessly difficult problems that are riddled with errors and typos. I can confirm that neither of those common complaints apply to this book.I started working on the problems with this book immediately after finishing Goswami's two breadth practice exam book, which I found to be frustrating at times due to overly long and complicated problems that would be difficult to solve in the six minute average window. While over preparing by practicing on problems that are more difficult than the actual exam isn't a bad idea, if you did get stuck on a problem in that book, the bare bones solution section was likely to be of little help to clear up your confusion.By comparison, the problems in this book were noticeably easier on average than Goswami's exam. I have yet to take the actual PE Exam or the official NCEES Practice Exam I've ordered, but I am expecting the difficulty level of this book to be on par with the actual breadth exam quesitons. The solutions in this book are all broken down with easy to follow steps, and even the qualitative questions contain solutions that are explained in detail. I can only recall encountering one small error/typo thoughout the course of both exams, and it in no way created any confusion. Registering the book through their website also grants you access to some of the online resources they offer on their website.All in all it's a very reasonable price for two well written breadth exams that match the current exam specifications, while also providing thorough solutions, and additional online resources. Given the absurd prices for all of the reference materials needed for the exam, it was a nice surprise to feel like I actually got my money's worth for once.

This book is a great source of Practice problems for the AM breadth exam of the NCEES PE Civil Engineering exam. Most of the material out there (PPI) has problems far more difficult and time consuming that you are likely to encounter, not the case here. The difficulty of these problems is at least on par with the problems in the NCEES Practice exams. The problem with the NCEES practice exams is lack of problem diversity. If you compare old editions of it they don't vary much. That's where this book stands out.Be sure to register your book to get the full expanse of their content. This will get you hundreds more problems, and allow you to do timed practice exams and also focus on certain topics to shore up weaknesses. I am really impressed with this book and more so, the support materials on their website. Registering the book was a bit confusing, but as the other reviews say, use the "contact us" form on their website.The online material consists of even more practice problems as well as timed tests and topic specific quizzes to pinpoint your weak points. Definitely worth the $50!I wish I hadn't wasted the $100 in renting the Companion to the CERM which has way too in depth questions that are not aren't even formatted like the the test (i.e. multiple part problems involving data lookup and some calculus).

There are better resources for the price but this helped.

I think the problems are on par for what to expect on the actual test. I like that it gives you two complete test to work through. I only wish it gave a a fill in the bubble answer key. These are easy to obtain though! Value is excellent. Remember to register you book! I wish this was easier to find on their website. You have to dig a little, but it’s definitely worth having more problems to work! Look for it under the tab to buy the practice exam on there site.

I have taken and failed the PE test once before. I bought additional study material for second time around. This book is very realistic of type of questions and difficulty of actual test problems. I used this to practice timing on problems. I also like, in the solutions, they put the question so you don't need to flip back and forth. This also makes it nicer to bring with you to the actual PE test. Would recommend to anyone taking the Civil PE Test.

Bought this book 2 weeks prior to the April exam and I'm glad I did. Question difficulty and structure was on par with what I saw in April. Not too easy and not too hard. Can confidently say it helped me pass.The only downside to the book is the sections are in a random order, so you'll do a structures problem then the next one is a geotech Q then to a construction question etc.Sort of wished it was in the order that the NCEES has it for the exam, so there would be less flipping through the big CERM book looking for the applicable section.
