Awesome
Albert Einstein is credited with saying, “If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.” The authors of the "for dummies" series understand it. Without exception, I have very much appreciated and benefited from simple and clear explanations of what each method is. Math is by far the most poorly taught subject, this series is a notable exception.

Just need to memorize For Dummies to pass class
For Dummies is like the Bible or Quran you just have to MEMORIZE this book to pass differential equations. Unlike conventional textbooks where they give you mostly practice problems in 400 pages, For Dummies gives you step by step details in 400 pages.

A must for anyone struggling
This book is great for anyone struggling with differential equations. It is well organized, has plenty of examples that are layed out step by step. For the money it is a good value and gladly keep my copy around for reviewing.

An Author that Truly Understands Keeping It Simple
Steven Holzner can truly make differential equations understood on a basic level. The author has an ability to keep you interested by keeeping the text light and easy to comprehend. He seems to understand what gives the typical student of diff-e-q difficulties and show a clean path right through these areas. Great book with simple answers to some of my past misunderstood solutions in differential equations.

Disappointing
I had expected that this book would lead me through the world of Differential Equations in some logical way. What I found disappointing is that the author takes an almost patronizing approach at times and then at other times jumps over topics without explaining them well. For example on page 46 there's an equation with a +/- in front of a square root and the author says "You have two solutions here: one where the addition sign is used and one where the subtraction sign is used." How idiotic! Then on page 27 in introducing the idea of integrating factors, he states "Comparing the previous two equations term by term gives you;" and it's not obvious at all what he did. I've spent an hour and I'm still not totally clear and this is an important topic. Later on page 65 discussing exact differential equations, he says "You might note that this function has some interesting properties" when introducing the Psi(x,y) equation. Yeah - it does have interesting properties but I have no idea where it came from or why the partial derivatives were introduced. There's no clear order to the book in my mind - just a bunch of topics strung together. Finally, there are no exercise problems to try out and I'm not plunking down more money for this guy's work book given how dissatisfied I am with the instruction book. As someone else mentioned, try reading through Paul's Online Math Notes [...]and also look at Khan Academy. There is a need for a good primer on differential equations for the self-taught student but this is not it.

It's hard to tell if I didn't like this book much because I hate differential equations
It's hard to tell if I didn't like this book much because I hate differential equations, or because of the way the book is written. I found it difficult to search out what I needed and I didn't feel that the explanations added anything to what I had already been told. I already own several "for dummies" books (trig, calculus 1&2, physics 1&2, electricity, and more) so I know what to expect. I didn't feel this one was as clear or as good at helping me have those a-ha moments...but this was also an exceedingly difficult class. I gave the book 4 stars because the one or two things it was able to help me with were useful. I just wouldn't recommend getting this book if you think it's going to save you at the last minute. It's more likely to be helpful as a companion right from the beginning of the term.

Not useful at all.
This book is not for dummies, this is for those who have advanced knowledge in calculus. It did not help me at all in understading differential equation. This is a "must not buy" item. It should be given a negative star rating. 😡😡😡😡

Idea buona, realizzazione pessima.

More than does the job
Linear Algebra is the most abstract, intimidating and demanding Maths specialism and D.Es can be a handful too. However, this text will aleviate all your fears. A joy to read but you still have to work at it.
