Good for Beginners
As a whole, good book for beginners. Touches the basics. 2 major things I would add: 1. Link to a web with all the exercises on video 2. Chapter that deals with Resistance training for speed (also with the exercises on video at the web).

Exceeded expectations
I was a little skeptical about this book because none of the contributors is an established sprint coach. I know that track sprinting is different than sprinting in field and court sports but I thought that an established track coach's input would still have been included. I was pleasantly surprised by the book. I learned a considerable amount especially about speed program design, although I was hoping for a little more regarding developing good sprint technique. This minor disappointment aside, I feel confident that the information in the book would be beneficial to all but the most experienced S&C coach or sports performance trainer. It was a fast read and I found myself disappointed when it was over. I will certainly apply some of the info to the teams and athletes I train and suspect that this book will spend more time in my hand than on my book shelf.

Needs More Information: Where is the Program design?
Hello all: Not going to waste my time going into every little detail of the book but here is my review Pros: Great pictures, Great explanation of how to do those exercise/drills. Good overall summery of what speed is, strength, and power application. Good BASIC overview of training for speed throughout various sports. ie. Football, baseball, Hockey, Track and Field. Cons: No real Program design. The Book is called Developing Speed. There is barely any program design in the book for the sports mentioned. Being a track and field sprinter, the book goes into very little details about actual training for speed for TRACK AND FILED SPRINTERS! Yet it directs you to BUY another book??? Overall: Good book for overall reference. You're not going to get anything new from it if you are an experienced Coach or athlete. Good for newbies. Lacking in program design really bad. A few other reviewers said the same thing and I agree. I personally was expecting a LOT more from the NSCA but you who knows, maybe they will come out with a volume 2, in the next few months. And if they DO decide to read this review, please please please, add some program design. Specifically speed training on Long to Short training but more specifically SHORT TO LONG TRAINING. Thanks.
