Ulric really did his homework on this offering. This is a very well produced book, solid binding, heavy pages, dust jacket and even a silk ribbon marker. There is an impressive mix of well chosen contemporary and vintage images and a thoughtfully laid out division of materials. The book is divided into two parts. The first part treats the philosophy, beliefs and culture of this military organization and the second showcases an impressive collection of its myriad artifacts. The overall work leaves one with a much greater understanding of the SS and its members. This book had to have taken an enormous amount of time and research to produce. Only someone with Ulric's vast related background could do justice to such a project.

I just recently finished this book and it's packed with tons of photos of the allgemeine ss from the pre war years along with eye catching pictures of artifacts such as uniforms, headgear, weapons, banners etc.. The book is well made and greatly written, with me being a world war 2 buff on the third reich and SS I couldn't put it down. It's well worth the money if you enjoy reading about the SS and the history about it.

For starters, I'm a huge WW2 buff and a military history enthusiast. I deeply enjoy adding to my extensive library of books and there is nothing more gratifying than having a book become more than you ever expected. I'm not interested in the Nazi Idealogy or politics on a personal level. I just like to collect unique books that go into a great level of detail and books which offer something that hasn't been done already. This book does exactly that. I had high hopes that it would be a great book but it exceeded my expectations in every regard, The cover doesn't even give a hint as to how good this book is and what makes it so good, is the detail and variety of teh subjects contained within. The pictures in this book are incredible. A collector or WW2/Third Reich buff will be quite please with this essential work. This truly is a must-have book if you want your collection to be athoritative. The bottom line is, if you are looking for the best book to buy on the Allgemeine SS with a great combination of detail, pictures and text, you will be more than satisfied with this book. It definitely is a masterwork, a level of quality and excellence for all others to strive to achieve. It's worth more than the cover price so pick one up before they're gone. Certainly a treasure trove for Third Reich scholars and collectors.

Even if you have plenty of other SS reference books purchase this one. Fascinating and well researched. The book itself is high quality with nice touches like the marker ribbon being in black and silver. I had to think long and hard about the expense of the purchase but don't regret it for a second after receiving the book.
