excellent textbook on yoga anatomy
some reviewers found typos and errors in attachment points of muscles etc.. some found it hard going thru the descriptive anatomy sectionsusing physio-terminologies and correct asana names in sanskrit..these are valid concerns and could sink an ordinary work..however, descriptions of applied practice and teaching are given in plainenglish anyone can follow and understand.. the object obviously is toteach the subject to serious readers a genuine interest..so perhaps it isnt suitable for most novices or those seeking a beginners guide to basic yoga.. then again, yoga itself isnt for everybody..this is an A4+ sized book of over 200pages with comprehensive index..solid paperback with strong pages printed in california..references to specialist material subject by subject thru the book..text is clear and readable without my reading glasses..handles like a good heavy magazine type publication..it arrived [in australia] well packed ahead of timefor about $20.. thats serious value in quality reading..body sections are covered, comprehensively, from the anatomyto applied practice and applied teaching [theres a hint]..despite some reviewers rejecting the presentation i found the clearink drawings with colors to be easily digestible and excellent..within descriptions of anatomy, movement, asanas etc there is a wealthof information not usually provided.. i found it interesting the sectionon the sacrum and sacro-illiac joint [often overlooked] includingeg, that hormonal changes due to menstruation, pregnancy, lactationsoften the female sacral ligaments responsible for joint support..that the female joint has a smaller and flatter surface for joint articulation..that the female joint articulates at only two segments with the pelvis[instead of three for the male].. given the structure and nature ofthis 'wedge' joint which is pushed down into the pelvis when standingby weight of the torso, this explains one reason my teachers oftenadvise menstruating or pregnant or lactating women to considervariations in some asanas, such as some inversions etc..these few hints cant really serve as a complete review of this work..it is a self evident attempt at a definitive textbook of its kind..i have no hesitation in recommending it to any serious yoga studentor yoga teacher or for that matter medical professionals seekingan understanding of postural and movement anatomy in hatha yoga..despite typos etc, it must get the 5 stars..

Very helpful book - not overwhelming!
I purchased this for an advanced YTT. Although an anatomy textbook, this one is very easy to understand and digest! Would definitely recommend to beginner and advanced practitioners alike!

Judith Lasater's 'Go To' Yoga in Depth Anatomy Read!
The leading restorative yoga instructor and a founder of Yoga Journal, Ms. Lasater is the go-to person for Yoga Anatomy. Her workshops are highly coveted and to study with her is a dream of many yoga instructors. This is a wonderful book that ALL yoga instructors should have and incorporate her lessons into their classes. Yoga is not yet considered a medical modality in the US, and many yoga instructors do not have adequate anatomy training. I found this book so enlightening as an instructor, I immediately, upon reading it - signed up for one of her 5 day seminars. If you want to understand yoga and the body, this is a must read....over and over! She goes thru the kinesiology of the most popular poses and adds wonderful alternatives for bodies that may not be able to move into positions without props and help.

Great yoga resource
This book was recommended to me by a fellow yoga teacher as a good resource for personal and teaching practice. It has proven to be so. Book in near-perfect condition.

Great!
I recommend anything by this author. Her medical background and yoga expertise combine to provide a wealth of information. Her goal is to help you know your body and learn about yourself through movement and yoga. All of her books have an inviting, relaxing, and reflective tone that soothes as you read. Her books can also be interactive. In a learn by doing manner, you can practice poses and meditations through her guided instruction. As a student of yoga, her books are front and center in my library.

Loving it!
Its really informative. I find myself rereading some parts since I'm not familiar with all the technical terms but its not that hard to figure out. And I've also been applying what I've read to my classes. Only a few pages a week will give you enough material to focus on when teaching a class. It literally takes you deep into the tissues and helps you understand how complex the human body really is. Love it!
