The name Blonde Redhead comes from a song by the group DNA from New York City, which the band happens to love very much. This is the first full-length album on Touch & Go Records by the Sonic Youth influenced group featuring Kazu Makino and twins Simone and Amadeo Pace.

My favourite Blonde Redhead album, for so many reasons.
I bought this album after hearing many of the tracks on grooveshark, and on buying it proceeded to listen to it incessantly for many weeks. This album is truly one of the most expressive I've ever listened to, from incredibly noise inspired, near punk songs (Symphony Of Treble, Kazuality) to some of the most, hypnotic, beautifully composed tracks (Ego Maniac Kid, Bipolar). The dark riffs, firmly rooted bass, explosive drums and incredibly elegant but pained vocal melodies from both Kazu and Amadeo take you through a downhearted, yet seething 37 minutes of sound. Not a bad track on the album, one of the few albums that I will listen to from start to finish without once getting anywhere near bored. It was my second term at university and the work was stacking up adding to the intense feelings of depression I seem to feel naturally anyway.. Instead of listening to horribly patronising, happy music to cheer myself up, I took to wallowing in this sadness, a sadness that I have no right at all to feel, considering how privileged and fortunate my life would certainly appear at this time. This album does not patronise or become repetitive, nor does it paint the usual pretentious image of self indulgent despair. It is uniquely perfect for me, for this time and place in my life, and if anyone recognises themselves in this, I would recommend this album and this band to be your soundtrack.
