I used one of these when I was taking microbiology classes in college. Now I am using this well made loop and holder to work on cultures for my four,et and medicinal mushroom business. Super cool and it fits in my hand made induction sterilizer.

I expected that the screw hub would be too small for the stainless steel wire I insert into these types of handles. It was too small, but I found that if I offset the wire into just one of the 3 splits and used two pliers (with a cushion not to damage the coating on the hub or handle) I could gradually screw it down over the inserted vice throngs and eventually I was able to screw it down 95% of the way. That's good enough. As stated in the title, if the plastic handle is made from a high-temp polypropylene I will be very satisfied, because in that case, or in the case of any other high-temp plastic, the handle won't melt during the autoclaving process.
