Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam Paperback – 3 April 2014

A delightful little gem of a book to own. It is profound poetry and philosophy combined. Words cant describe its priceless worth.

It is in Iranian language which is called Farsi ( Persian ) . If you can read it , it is nice !

I grew up with these poems but this version is guaranteed to put anyone off. Most of the book is taken up with the background followed by just plainly printed several versions of the translation. The book I had originally was a beautifully illustrated copy of the first edition which I still think is the best. Later on Edward Fitzgerald seems to have got bogged down in the minutiae of Persian language and the subsequent translations add nothing to what the poet was trying to say. Despite the quite attractive cover, the inside was very disappointing and had me wondering why Fitzgerald spent 30 years of his life doing the translations.

It looked ok but i thought it would be in English but it was in arabic which i don't know!
