My 91 year old mom relies on this
This works great, my hearing impaired mom relies on this phone every day and it works great. From time to time I’ve had to reset the WiFi connection, not sure what she did to it, but no big deal. Love Love Love it!

Functions as designed.
This unit was purchased for a very elderly person, as I suppose many who buy these phones are for that intended purpose. If you want to know the face of confusion, hand one of these to a 90 year old. OK, not fair, I know. Here's the deal. With proper set-up and careful, repetitive use instructions, old folks can manage to get good use from these phones.Unfortunately, these phones are still designed by male tech monkeys that do not understand how to design a SIMPLE to use process for the large majority of their intended(geriatric) users.Memorizing button push sequences, fear of erasing programing, and just plain making it 'computer-like' freaks out the old geezers who just want to see the captions and speak into the handset.Be aware that the caption service is internet based, and any issues with that end results in NO CAPTIONS.Overall, this government subsidized phone system does actually work for the most part, it just needs to be simplified for the generation it's intended for.

Restores communication
My mom’s hearing had gotten to the point phone calls were near impossible. She was not confident she could understand doctors, service providers and family. This phone has restored her independence in communication. It was easy to connect to her home Wi-Fi. A pleasant surprise was the higher volume on the handset was clear and loud enough for her to hear. Other amplified phones had not helped. The phone offers two transcription options. We chose the automated as opposed to the operator assisted. Large characters and clear display fill in words she misses. There is a slight delay on the transcript and a few inaccurate words. The ring volume a visual indication gets her attention. The built in answering machine is easy to use and also transcribes messages. On outgoing calls she now knows if the phone is ringing as opposed to a busy signal.I was doubtful anything would. I am very impressed

Awesome idea, but Wi-Fi connections need to be better
My brother originally purchased this for my elderly dad who has trouble hearing on the phone. It does not stay connected to the Wi-Fi router and unfortunately where it is used, there is no ability to hook up an Ethernet cable. At least every other day it shows a message saying the router is not on or can't be reached when all other devices in the house that connect to Wi-Fi have NO problem at all. I originally connected it to my main Wi-Fi network but after some time it seemed to refuse to connect to it, insisting the router was off. I then decided to enable the "guest" network feature of my router and it's a bit more stable, but still gives problems on occasion. It's a good thing I live with my parents and am a "techie" to be able to support and troubleshoot the phone. The other features of the phone work quite well, especially the answering machine, phone book and volume boost, but if you really want to give this to a non-technical person and don't want to have to deal with connection problems, look elsewhere.

Works very well except . . .
We found this phone to be very easy to set up and especially like the volume control feature. The additional volume that is available has made the use of the caption feature pretty much unnecessary. However, we're not able to hardwire the connection to our computer/internet because of the layout of our house so it's connected by Wi-Fi. Our main gripe is that the phone drops the Wi-Fi connection at least once per day and we are unaware of it unless we specifically check for it. While it only takes a couple of minutes to reset it up, it's disconcerting that we never know whether it's working or not. We now wonder how many voicemails we may have missed. We're now looking for a similar phone that doesn't have this problem. We also noted that there are other reviewers who have reported this problem. We love the phone otherwise.

Works better than I expected.
The sound amplification allows my 92 yr old father to be able to hear with the handset if he has his hearing aids in (which isn't often). The captioning appears pretty quickly, approx 3 secs. It has answering machine capabilities that also has the captioning. It has only been installed about a week. We will have to see if my father will now start answering the phone. I would recommend this phone to others.

Great phone if used with HIGH-SPEED internet connection.
Bought this for my father who 92. He has a hard time hearing most of the time, so i thought this would help.It does help, but it's not the end-all do-all I hoped it would be. The problem is the lag time between theperson on the other end speaking and what they said showing up on the screen. The translation is reallygood and the phone functions well. Sitting for those seconds waiting for the words to appear on the screenare frustrating. The internet where he lives is just not that great...
