Good product, but butyl smell is pungent.
Device work as advertised, but many have complained about a butyl rubber smell. They are accurate. It is quite strong and it does not seem to diminish over time. The manufacturer should take note because it hurts the reputation of the product.

It Stinks, It hurts, and it doesn't work..
do not waste your time. I have had other devices and I was replacing due to age. So I tried this product. Even though it has 5 tiers it did not inflate any more( in fact less) than the cushiony 3 tier devices. I have never, ever returned anything to amazon but this is going back. In fact, I just ordered my previous version.. The product stinks, feels oily, that clothe cover you see is a floppy wasted attempt. The hose was kinked and it was tricky to inflate. The hard plastic has no give on your lower jaw and it hurts....

It does have a bad smell that hasn't gone away and the fabric covering ...
Seems to work well but don't know that I can credit it with curing my pains. It does have a bad smell that hasn't gone away and the fabric covering over the top is easily frayed and caught on hue Velcro. Also didn't come with any instructions so I was wearing it backwards (at least according to pictures I found on the Internet).

Helpful prior to disc replacement surgery
I used this traction device to help prepare my neck before a disc replacement surgery, as the replacement disc is as tall as a healthy disc, but it was replacing a badly degenerated disc. I had a similar surgery a year ago, and I was not prepared for the extreme muscle pain for several days after the surgery as my neck muscles adapted to being stretched about 1/4" longer at rest than they were used to. I hoped that pre-stretching my neck muscles would reduce that pain for my second surgery, and, at least for me, it worked! I used the traction device for 20 minutes at least once each day for the 10 days prior to my surgery. The recovery was much easier than my first surgery, and I credit this device with much of that difference.

This product stinks!!!
This product stinks. Literally. The plastic it is made from smells so strongly of chemicals there's no way I want it around my neck. It is out in the garage at the moment "outgassing". If it stops stinking, we may try it otherwise it will have to go back. Also, haven't tried to get around our neck yet, but it seems awfully small it may not fit an adult neck. Think I'll just send it back.

Seems To Be Doing the Job
I have the Dr. Bob's cervical collar, this one is so much lighter! I will be traveling with this model, it seems to be doing the job. I would have appreciated a modicum of printed instructions in the plastic bag. I was fortunate to have previously used a collar and had some idea of how to handle the unit. Also, a brief description could contain the notice that it takes awhile to fully inflate. I am leaving mine inflated, and do not know if this is the right thing to do.

It smelled so much like petroleum that I had to return it.
It might have been terrific to use if I could have gotten past the awful nauseating smell of petroleum based materials in it.Seriously it was overwhelming and no amount of airing it out made it better. It only made first my house smell like it, and even when I moved it out to my covered front porch, it made it unpleasant to walk in and out the door by it! It was that bad!

Does the job
This unit works for maybe 50% of the folks who have compression in the cervical spine and related Sx.It is a little tricky for some folks to get on just right, but otherwise easy to use. It is fairly economical and overall a good "tool" in your box for treating patients with traction at home or in the office under supervision.
