A Non-Canonical Sculpt Reinvigorates This Old Faithful Mythos Beastie
Not at all how it is described, well, not *much* like it's described in Randolph Carter's encounter with the thing in the Dreamlands, and not the image as realized by Grenadier about thirty years ago, but evocative and pretty damn epic for all that. This Gug is excellent but for one thing: the arms have a weak point where the forearms join. You'll not have any trouble if you don't try and bend the arms, unless someone else tries to bend them on your behalf (grrrrrrr). If the arms *are* bent, they will snap with ease at the first joint and prove almost impossible to repair elegantly, as there is nowhere to run a pin with any confidence. And I say that as someone who pinned a dozen of the old lead GW Hormagaunt models to their bases by drilling up the one leg that connected to the ground when they snapped off the stupidly weak tab provided by the foundry (and after that they *still* made the same choice of pose for the styrene version so it's snap city all over again if you aren't careful. I digress). The left and right arm structures are separate and need attaching to the body by the modeler. Again, pinning is problematical, so a smooth, tight arm-to-body join is essential if using CA to hold them on.Nice model. Reaper scores again.
