On Truth: The Tyranny of Illusion

Some shaky analogies but otherwise fantastic book
I found this book highly enlightening, entertaining, and relevant to anyone interested in true learning. This book helps you to challenge every day assertions that imprison us and prevent us from asking the questions that drive real meaning. What does it mean to love someone? What does it mean when someone asserts something about their self and expects us to take it at face value? What happens when we or someone else asserts unfounded data as truth? These questions are easy enough to discern with the right perspective. This book gives you that perspective.I did not give the book five stars due to a few issues I had with the book.First, some of the initial assertions at the beginning of the book were shaky. That is to say that they had elements of truth, but were set out as expectations for us to believe. Considering the book says that we should not implicitly trust someone because they ask us to, the contradiction was glaring to me.Second, the author talks about faith as a "feeling" being a bad basis for understanding truth. While I completely agree with this statement, the author then contradicts himself again when he says that you know love is real when you "feel" it. I find that statement to be untrue and again, a contradiction.Apart from these two minor contradictions which could be corrected with a little editing (and perhaps rethinking on the love angle), the book is amazingly flawless and freeing. I found myself letting go of so much baggage in my life and history just based on the affirmation that the thoughts I've had my entire life are true. I hope you too find freedom in the truth.

Still Picking Up The Pieces
I completely admit and understand that I do not fully understand and am still processing the information and principles that this book instructed me to examine and focus on. In my current best intuition, this is how Stefan would have wanted me to respond if he asked for an honest statement on his books content. The "villain" that Stefan portrays as someone who understands love as something to contractually give to someone for agreeing with one of your virtues while not giving it when you say or do something that disagrees is someone we've all been, including myself and it's easy to believe that we are morally good by default and our actions are just naturally coming from a place of good intentions. The creedos and demagogue s that we follow most blindly are what lead to our most cleverly self disguised pain. I'm still sifting through the rubble of the nuclear blast that Stephen set off in my mind, looking for who's really got my back and who doesn't and whether or not actions I have done and plan to do are based in true good or evil....but I don't think I'll ever be a slave to illusion in the conventional sense ever again..... Or look at truth the same way

Remarkably blunt and to the point. Read this!
This book certainly changed some of my views. While I read it to the very last page it was amazing how it all hit home with me! It's a messed up world with the collage of falsehoods out there that it's hard to realize when you've skipped over the truth completely. This book brings you back to the point of realization and it's bluntness is like a slap in the face to wake up. It's much easier to live a lie but it will soon consume your knowledge and you will become its byproduct. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Being able to see evil
This book quite possibly has saved lives. Truth is worth more than gold and this book is full of it. This book is not a self help book but one in which gives you the tools to deal with the truth. This is my favorite book and will be read again many times. Thank you Stefan. And for anyone who wants more check out his YouTube channel

Do NOT miss this read.
Astounding insights. A clarion call that I did not see coming. Often times I feel that an author should have written a pamphlet instead of a book. I feel the opposite hear. I cannot recommend this book enough.I can only imagine the profound impact on society at large if everyone read and fully digested this new strategy for thinking about our everyday conclusions and behavior in light of such reasoning.

To find the answer first ask the question, then brace yourself and listen
This book was uncomfortable to read. That was just the beginning. Being exposed to a lifetime of toxicity can sensitize you to healing truth as if it were acid. Hang in there, and let the process progress naturally. I don't agree with all he said. I don't have to agree to have my eyes opened to concepts I need to become aware of. Thank you Stefan for writing this.

A good recap or starter to thinking objectively
I have been following Stefan for about 6 months, reading Ayn Rand books for about a year off and on, and studying libertarianism for even longer. This book added value to my journey now, but could add value for someone just getting into the philosophy of individual freedom. He does a good, quick job of laying the foundation to independent thought.

Written from a "there is no God" perspective
I gave this book a 5 star rating so you would read this review. People seldom read the 1 star reviews, so maybe you will see this one. This is a book written from a Godless perspective. The whole concept is : there is no God so any moral judgment you make or teach your children to make is based on a lie. If that is the kind of philosophy you are looking for – this is for you.In reality – this is a 0 star book.

Excelente. Fazendo pensar.
Recomendado!
