Effortless installation, just plug and play, no drivers, etc., to fool with!
I recently purchased a Dell 15 inch laptop but it does not have a DVD drive, which I do need on occasion, and it is skimpy with just 3 USB and 1 Type C ports (most of the time it "acts" as a desktop with external keyboard, mouse, and monitor which take up 2 of its 3 USB ports. Thus, I have been in the market for an external DVD/CD drive and this 7 in 1 External Blu-ray Drive grabbed my attention with its impressive capabilities coupled with its 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2 Type C ports, 1 SD card slot, 1 TF card slot, so I decided to buy it. Set up took like 5 seconds - just plug into either a USB or a Type C port my laptop, and it was immediately recognized and ready for use. No drivers or anything else to install. I first put in an audio CD and it played the songs and I listened to the music over headphones connected to the USB 3.0 port on the player without having to use my last USB port on my laptop. Next I put in a wedding DVD and played MP4s and they looked great as I expected them to. My final test was to load software purchased on a DVD, namely TurboTax, because when I buy software, I prefer having it on a DVD versus a download. And that worked fine. This device has enormous capability with its Blue-ray 3D features and should perform well for anyone with those needs, but I do not presently have the need for those advanced features although I do like having that capability should the need ever arise. Bottom line, I'm very impressed with this 7 in 1 External Blu-ray Drive and believe it fills an important role next to my new laptop, and the price is VERY reasonable!

Plug and Play
I plugged this unit into my desktop, and a free software popped-up. I installed the software, and the machine started working with no problems.

works; note: "Region 2" as shipped
First thing: as shipped (at least mine), this is set for DVD Region 2. So if you're not in that region (e.g. North America), then you'll be in for some disappointment out-of-box as you will get 'errors' that don't give a good indication of what's going on.The documentation suggests using some 3rd party software to work around this. Some of those don't even exist any more, or are non-free. Probably not what you want in a player. However, you /can/ change the region code of the player. Be careful, because you can only do this 4 times. The process will vary as per OS, and you can search the web. But here is (one way) how you do it on Windows:* Have a disc of your desired region already in the drive.* Use Explorer to go to the drive and right-click and select 'properties'* There will be a 'Hardware' tab, select it, and then select again your specific drive, which will be listed as the "MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ272" device.* With that selected, click 'properties' (yes another one)* There will be Select the 'DVD Region' tab.* You will be shown the 'Changes remaining', which will be 4 for a /new/ drive. You then select your desired country.* Below will be shown the Current Region and the New Region* Contemplate what you are about to do for a few moments, and if convinced you have made the right choice select 'OK'(there's an alternater path to the same dialog via device manager)And that's it! Be aware you have no 'undo' and you only have 4 chances before the drive is locked forever. So think about it before you click 'OK'!Second, I found the try to be a bit fragile, so handle with care when inserting and removing disks. The disk snaps into the hub instead of there being a clutch like on internal drives.I use mine for data, and have booted a system from it. Note: no M-Disk support.

Felt like a scam
So this product started out great. I was able to download the software required to use the DVD player, CD/DVD burner, ect. without a hitch. While I was able to use this product, it was great. It wasn't overtaxing on my computer, didn't slow it down any, didn't run down my battery, ect. A couple of months go by, and I get a notification saying I have to pay $89.00 a MONTH to keep using the software necessary to use this product. I tried to find other programming to use but nothing worked. So now I'm stuck with something I can't use or return, and I feel bad trying to sell it to someone else. I don't know if it was just me using it wrong or if that's just how it is. I would not recommend this product to anyone

Very short usb connection
UPDATE October 7, 2024 - Unit stopped working. Power light not turning on - tried several different computers. I will not be buying this one again. This unit has some interesting additions with onboard 2 usb and 2 usb-c ports. Most bluray burners do not have this feature so this is a plus for limited usage / power requirement items. What is concerning is the actual usb / usb-c connection cable is very short and you'll need to plug in both the usb and usb-c connections to get the unit to work and there is not much cable on these so you'll need ports together on your computer/laptop for them to work. Luckily I did have such space.I am using my bluray burner as long term storage burns for files that don't need to be on a hard drive and the speed is slightly less than what I am used to with a double usb connection on a burner that I replaced that had gone belly up. Since this is purely an archival unit for me, the speed is not a deal breaker.I will report back on this on longevity but the overall unit seems nice enough though I do find the bluray drawer to be slightly hesitant to lock requiring multiple attempts. Right now it works. Not sure how durable this will stay.
