Some 8 pin power motherboards may run with a 4 pin in half the socket, others may not.Would not recommend this for the highest power usage, as the power is still only coming through the same two 12V and two ground wires, but it may keep am 8 pin board happy if the power level is not excessive for the 4 pin source and the PSU that only offers a 4 pin.Use smartly and ensure that you do have sufficient 12V amperage available
