I’ve made many homemade water filters for fish and stock tanks. It has always been a problem getting a good seal for pipes going into and out of plastic containers that don’t have flat surfaces where a bulkhead would work. I’ve sealed the openings by making gaskets, using silicone, creatively “engineering” custom pieces, and using plumbers’ putty. Those options are not great. I ordered a 5-pack of 1 inch uniseals. This may be my single best purchase of the year. I made a filter out of a 30-gallon trashcan and used 2 of the uniseals for the exiting water. There are no instructions with the uniseals, but you can find videos online. Note that the hole saw you need is 1 3/4, which surprised me. The uniseal will just slip easily in the hole after you remove the burs and loose plastic. Schedule 40 PVS goes through the uniseal perfectly. I used a small amount of Vaseline on just the first 1 inch of pipe, which made it pretty easy to push through the seal. The seals have not leaked even with 12 inches of pipe extending beyond the seal carrying water back to an isolation tank for a few sick koi. Even with moving the pipe around, the seals have not leaked. These seals are absolutely awesome. They’re a lot cheaper (a couple of dollars compared to $15 or so) than a bulkhead and more versatile. I’d recommend them to anyone needing to seal around a pipe going through a curved (or even a flat) surface.

These seals were great. I am using them on a 5 gallon bucket hydroponic system. Many reviews on here suggested that they dont work with 5 gallon buckets but I decided to try anyways. They were very hard to install. I had to put the PVC through the seal before installing in the bucket. I even tried vaseline to slide the PVC in but that didn't work either. They don't leak a drop though and they did end up working. Just a little labor intensive and pricy compared to other online options.

I have never had a leak. Be sure to put your drill in reverse when your cutting the hole out and you'll get a real smooth hole that you will have to deburr on the inside of the bucket . I use a dab of dawn dish soap for lubrication on the pipe end and inside of the seal. I heard somewhere that if you boil the grommet it will become a lot more pliable for putting in the hole. This might prevent splitting....I did have one split on me but it still never leaked

Worked so well! Didn’t use soap to put PVC pipe in and it was easy enough. No leaks!

Always work great. Never have issues from any uniseals. Used for many years in koi pond filters.

Have it on a plastic 55 gallon barrel. Drilled the hole the instructions called for. Installed per instructions and ran a 1” PVC pipe through it. Filled the barrel up and it does not leak. So far very impressed…now for longevity.
