Don’t cheat your feet
I love these shoes. The zero drop is a bit odd to get used to at first, but not too drastic of a difference. The biggest selling point for me that will make me stick with this brand is the toe box. I’ve never had my feet feel so comfortable while covering rugged like I have in these. They do run a bit smaller than my usual size, but going up one size created the perfect fit. I do a lot of trail runs and before Altra I thought it was normal to experience the level pain in my feet that I was feeling. NOT WITH ALTRA!! My feet were relaxed and afforded the room to flex and relax throughout the extended amount of rough miles. There is enough cushion to take the impact of downhill slopes easily without the bulkiness that leads me to sometimes drag my feet. The gaiter attachment points are just an added bonus to me, and they hold strong in the back to ensure they don’t come off. I highly recommend this product!!

I have tried really hard to love these shoes
I have tried really hard to love these shoes. They are very comfortable, they dry out quickly, and they are much cooler than I thought they would be. But there are three things I can't shake. 1. Traction is good, until you encounter wet rocks. 2. Side hilling, my feet roll to much. 3. There isn't enough protection around the inner and outer metatarsal bones. My feet have been pinched between unstable rocks with these and it was much more painful than my Adidas Swift Terrex R or my La Sportivas. It may not be a completely fair comparison, but I've noticed Solomon and other brands also provide more protection in this area.I have done a lot of intense hikes on and off trail in these and there is a lot to like, but I can't get past my knocks against them.

Works for Some but not Everyone
I don't doubt that this shoe is great for some people. I have been hiking with Merrell Moabs for a few years now and wanted a second, different kind of hiking shoe. I do a weekly hike of 7 miles roundtrip with a 2,200 elevation gain. I tried the Altra Lone Peak 3.5 for three hikes after doing a bit of walking in them for a week. The instruction say they do need time to adjust. Each of the three hikes I did caused pain in the plantar fascia. I had to return the shoes because my feet have never experienced plantar fasciitas, and this shoe gave me them to me.What I liked and disliked about this shoe in summary1. They are like walking on marsh mellows2. They do run small about half to one size small. I ordered a full size larger3. They do take time to adjust which I will not be doing because I don't want to risk further injuryI will not be buying or wearing these shoes. They are not for me.

Just a little too low on the ankle
Buy 1/2 size up! If you use these for hiking and plan on using heavy wool socks, get a whole size up! 1/2 size up was JUST right for a lightweight wool, but if you prefer some space. Seriously, go a whole size up.These feel SOO different than other shoes. Zero drop is something to get used to. But, I have plantar fasciitis and I noticed when I walk in these I don't strike my heel when I step. The "balloon" in the midfoot changes how you move. Be prepared to give it some time to get used it. I suspect it'll stretch out your calf/ankle/back of leg muscles in a way some people may not be used to, like me.I returned these though because I want to use them for hiking and these sit SOOO low around the ankle. It felt weird to me. the Achilles has lots of padding, which is GREAT, rubbing won't blow through those pads, but they fold if you don't hold the heel just right when pulling them on and I didn't like that.Everything else about them seem awesome. Toe box is great, cushioning is great. I ordered the mids and suspect they'll be my ideal hiking shoe.

Altra failed on this model
Sorry Altra, but this shoe has gone down hill from the 3.0. I bought a pair of 3.0 Lone Peak's on the recommendation of a friend that runs Ultra Marathons. They were just as fantastic as she said. So when they wore out I bought the 3.5 Lone Peak's.. wow, such a difference in quality. These are way to small front to back and the toebox is considerably smaller. Literally my mid tow rubs on both shoes. I can't recommend this to anyone.

Poor build quality and even worst customer service.
Overall the concept of the shoe is cool, but the quality of construction is sub par and the customer service is a joke. Be careful. After only about a month the heel foam got displaced and I was never able to out it back in place. Because of that there is no heel support and the shoes are unwearable for daily wear let alone hiking. Maybe as slippers around the house. I contacted the seller and the company several times, but had no luck with customer service. Altra responded:"Hi..... Have you tried reaching out to the original point of purchase? We have an agreement with our retailers that they have the first option for exchanges, returns or any other issues with the shoes. If for any reason they are not able to help out Altra can then step in and go through our warranty department to get you taken care of. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank You! Consuelo"I reached out to the retailer who I purchased the shoes, Grivet Outdoors, and never heard back from them. Emailed Altra again to no reply.

Great shoes. A bit more cushion than my previous ...
Great shoes. A bit more cushion than my previous "go to" shoes, the Superiors. Plus, the heal is a bit higher so they don't slip while hiking. Now I can hike and run in the same shoes. I had to go up a half size from the Superiors. Normally I'm a size 9.5. I was buying Superiors size 10 but for these I had to go up to 10.5 for a proper fit. I've been running in Altras since they came out with their 1 version, up to 50K. The Lone Peaks are my new "go to" shoes.

Great shoe, light, comfortable and worth it!
Having been a long time Asics user, I was hesitant of crossing over to another brand, let alone one that has such a radical design. All I can say is that I'm very happy with my choice, and will certainly be purchasing another pair. The fit is good, and the extra toe space really makes a difference. I also love how light they are.In terms of the zero drop, I can't say that I've noticed any particular benefit in pace, but I will say that the run is very comfortable and I quickly got used to the style. They are so comfortable that I do wear them out and about as well. One noticeable point is in the design of the sole and grip. When I've been running in very muddy terrain, the grips are spaced in such a way that the mud easily falls off. Anyway, overall a great shoe and recommended.

Great shoe
Great shoe. But recommend at least one size bigger than normal shoes. I wear 9 1/2 UK street shoes and needed a 11 UK in these to leave plenty of room at the toe. Take time to get used to the zero drop or your calf muscles will not be thanking you, mine were decidedly unhappy as the first outing was 12 miles.

Wish they still made these
I do love my Lone Peak 4.0s and I'll probably get the 4.5s.... but honestly, these are the ones I prefer. The perfect running shoe.
