Good Book about the Big Blackout
Two women are travelling on the New York underground when all the electrical power goes. Everywhere. There is no longer any electrical power. What follows is the story of these two women, and their partners, as they try to survive in a world without electricity and start to run out of food. Added to this is the breakdown of organised society, law and order, and social norms as an "every one for themselves" mentality takes over. It is a very good read and scary because this could really happen to all of us. Good novel.

Thought provoking
I enjoyed, if that’s the right word, the way the author explored the breakdown of society and how quickly it might happen. It is definitely a scary read when you realise how utterly dependent we are on the electricity grid, especially in the present unstable political situation. The story ending is the reason I gave this novel 4 stars rather than 5. It does give scope for a follow up but, as in many of this genre, it wasn’t very satisfying, leaving lots of unanswered questions.

A must read
Thought provoking, moving, exciting, gripping, ups and downs that are highly believable and very well written. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

Great dystopian read
Loved this book, couldn’t put it down. I particularly liked that the protagonist was a woman in her 50s as you don’t get many of those!

Unexpectedly gripping
Told from a different perspective than the other, similar stories I've read, the excellent and detailed writing really pulls you in. I finished it in a day on holiday

A good read if a little disturbing
I enjoyed this book but it was slightly disturbing to think how quickly society could break down if this ever did happen!

Frightening
Really enjoyed this disaster novel. The build up of tension between the 4 main characters was great. Thank you Amy.

Worst book I've ever read
This book seemed promising initially but crumbled into amatuerishness. Thank god it was extremely cheap as I had to skim a lot of it.The characters were very unattractive and had lots of tedious discussions and arguments amongst themselves. The idea was interesting, but there were lots of weird mistakes, which others have noted - like peroxide stinging. And 'bleeding to death from a supperating wound'. I suspect she used AI to write it and then didn't fact-check.

I loved it!
I love these characters, not because they are perfect but because they're not. That's why it pinches when you consider an action of your own in a similar situation.I knew I may have behaved the same way and I didn't like it very much.Excellent read.

Well written book about characters TSTL
To be bluntly honest, this is a brilliant portrayal of idiotic suburbanites who have never known hardship in their lives and who basically sit and wait for someone to save them. Literally. Unlike other books where people show some initiative and forage or leave for greener pastures, our intrepid foursome passively dole out bites of food, waiting to be saved. I think the bitterest truth of people like this was when they agonize over the death of a rapist but let two kids starve to death next door. Like they SEE these kids getting weaker and more listless. Their dad begs them for food. Several times , they say no and then self-righteously congratulate themselves on doing the hard thing... putting themselves first. Then Rachel grieves for her rapust who was someone's son. For some mother who will never see their child again. WTF? Two elementary school kids are DYING, you cow! I was thrilled 2 of the MC's died and 2 were going to kill themselves. If these are average suburbanites, we are better off without them. They drank wine and played cads and waited...The writing was excellent, though I hate third person present, but I think the author forgot you have to like at least one character to like the book. That or she was going for literary BS as the awful cover seems to suggest. I wish she would write something else with characters you wanted to root for. For me, this is a one star, but as Rachel would think wistfully as she scrubs her rapist's blood... the author is, after all, someone's daughter.

A very believable, thrilling story
I could not put this book down. I found the premise to be very real (i.e., early in the COVID pandemic) and quite thrilling as the story gets going. The story is about human relationships and how people treat each other in extreme circumstances. If you like dystopian thrillers, I definitely recommend you read this one.

~~A different twist to a blackout~~
Over the past several years, I have read many novels on blackouts caused by many different causes. This novel, however, is the first I have read that has characters in their 50's.Four friends must come to grips with their handling of the major blackout. This is in the US, Europe and in other parts of the world. And, this one was the result of a terrorist attack. So, the questions begin! The readers must ask themselves...what would they do, how would they survive, what about food, etc?I am in hopes that there is another one in this series as the main characters still have lots of ground to cover. And, have this author on 'follow' now for any other novel she may write.Highly recommended for a completely different twist on this subject...

Couldn’t wait to get home to read!
While reading this book, I couldn’t wait to arrive home every evening so I could continue reading. Not only does the story grab you from page 1, it keeps you going. Now that I have finished, I want a sequel! While the story portrays a dystopian future of Washington, DC, I find the premise completely plausible. Virtually every week, detailed news articles appear about our country’s and other countries’ evolving offensive cyber capabilities. Reading this book gives you a glimpse of what could actually transpire if a cyberattack were to take place. Now I cannot sit on the DC metro without thinking about the book and the “what if ….” I am not sure I would make the same choices as the strong female protagonist Rachel and her friend Marsha but I wonder, would my friends make such choices? Do women and men act the same under this type of stress? If you are looking for a selection for your next book club, the numerous issues and questions raised in this book would lead to a lively discussion!
