Tasty alternative to other hot cereals
Arrived in good shaped, very well vacuum packed. Says it's a product of Peru. I've only previously eaten amaranth in the form of fermented Ethiopian injera where it's used as the flour. These cook easily in the flake form and are versatile to use as you would use other hot cereals, particularly as an alternative gluten-free grain. As these would be an unfamiliar food to most, it's very helpful that the HerbaZest website gives a lot of sweet and savory amaranth flake recipes to follow. I'm excited to try the pumpkin porridge.

Delicious and Satisfying Amaranth Flakes: A New Breakfast Favorite
This is my first time trying Amaranth Flakes, and I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy them. They have a flavor very similar to oatmeal, but with a slightly different texture that adds a nice chewy bite. I prepare them by cooking with milk, just like I would with oatmeal, and the result is a warm, comforting breakfast that I now look forward to every day. What I love most is how versatile these flakes are. You can top them with fruits, nuts, or even a drizzle of honey for added flavor, making them an easy base for a variety of breakfast options. Their hearty and filling nature keeps me satisfied throughout the morning, and they’re becoming a staple in my daily routine. If you’re looking to switch up your breakfast while keeping it nutritious and satisfying, I highly recommend giving Amaranth Flakes a try. They offer a unique alternative to oatmeal while still providing that familiar, comforting feel.

Bland but so healthy, easy to mix into anything, even uncooked
Surprisingly this is my first time trying amaranth by itself despite being gluten-free for 12 years. There's a mild smell but I'd say the taste is pretty bland & inoffensive, making it an easy thing to mix into your diet to get all of amaranth's nutrients. Basically it soaks up any flavor you want to give it. Mostly, I'm making the flakes for breakfast kinda like I make my steelcut oats - pour some into a glass jar, add almond milk (I never measure but basically add until the flakes are covered), let sit maybe 10' while I do other things, then microwave 30-45-ish sec until boiling. Let sit about 2'. Ready to go! They're much mushier than my steel cut oats so I'm tweaking the recipe (less milk, less time in microwave). As I said, they're bland by themselves so so far I've tried simple toppings like keto cocoa powder, frozen blueberries, or cinnamon. The HerbaZest website has lots of easy recipes, have a look. One extra nice thing, unlike oatmeal, the flakes can be eaten raw. So I'm sprinkling about 1/4 cup on my chicken salad too. Wherever you can get in the nutrients!

Actually organic! Not just non-gmo.
The HerbaZest Amaranth Flakes came shipped in the bag they are in without any external shipping packaging. They were in fine condition. The large shipping label covered nearly all of the front of the package.I have been putting a spoonful or two in my yogurt and on my green salads. They really don't taste like much and are a little chewy crunchy. Not crunchy like a chip. There's nothing dislikable about them. I have been suffering for GERD for a year now, and I'm hoping adding these to my diet will help speed up digestion and with all the other things I'm doing help relieve the acid reflux. The expiration is a year and 4 months away.

Tasty "SuperFood" - Easy To Prepare
Things categorized in the "SuperFoods" group tend to get my attention. Truth be told, I was not very familiar with Amaranth. I looked into it and found that it has a number of benefits, including (Gluten free, Twice the Protein of corn or rice, high squalene content can help hydrate, detoxify, and soothe skin, and improve its elasticity and reduce wrinkles). Additionally, it also contains omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, which absorb quickly and deeply into the skin. It is considered an antioxidant and is rich in Vitamin C.Equally important is preparation and taste. I wanted to try a simple preparation at first, so I made it porridge style, like "oatmeal". It thickens quickly with a total cook time of 2 minutes in boiling water and 3 minutes standing. I found it to be pretty good, (not quite as smooth in texture as oatmeal, a bit more gritty).Overall, I can recommend this "SuperFood" due to the many potential benefits.
