Let's have a talk about this unit.
#1. DO NOT become discouraged over the 1 star reviews. I did too and almost returned it. #2. This thing is awesome once it's up and running. #3. It IS NOT a plug and play as advertised in part of the description. #4. If possible, download the Cyberlink.com "PowerDVD" software. It's what I decided on because of great reviews all over the internet. #5. Great News! "PowerDVD" has a free trial that has no expiration date. It will play DVD & Blu-ray & burn both. You DO NOT have to buy PowerDVD If you only want to play or burn. #6. Bad news... The player will not play any format without the PowerDVD software. Not even a standard DVD. #7. I'm glad I didn't send it back to Amazon. I think the problem with other buyers is they think it's a plug n play & when it doesn't play they assume it's junk & send it back.

Poor Performer
This drive is trash.. it takes way to long to read a regular DVD and the copy fails occassionally for reading reasons and I've used two different softwares. I had high hopes for this drive given the price point and features described but I've had more problems than I expected. I'm using new gear as well so this should run smoothly especially for the singular purpose I purchased it which was just a couple weeks ago. VERY disappointed.. I would not recommend..

Works but you need blu-ray software to play disks
Worked great... I hooked it up... the seller had already communicated in the documentation that I still needed the software to play blu-ray CDs... so did so.. no worries. You can get free-software through Microsofts Shop. I was up and watching my blu-ray disk in 15min (most of the that time was finding the software and downloading it).

DVD recorder solved
I found a free software to copy and burn ISO called Ashampoo Burning Studio. Works great on this player. I had to hook in the usb3 small end into the pc and us the other cable that cam with it plugged into a usb2 slot.. This setup allowed me to burn 2 windows 11 iso to the dvd so I van have a way to repair windows if needed. Instructions are to focused on blue-ray not much help with setup.

Good external device to have
New computers do not have CD lambs or Blu-ray players so it’s good to have an external one. You never know when you’re gonna get a CD with data on it.

Good While it lasted
This was pretty much just what we needed. It played and ripped CDs and DVDs. It wouldn't play our Bluray but I just now noticed that you needed to download software to do that. It wouldn't burn CDs but see previous statement. It had the adapter for SD cards that worked just great. I'd give it a five star except it just died on us. In less than a year of sporadic use, the disc play won't even acknowledge a disc is in there. I can't seem to find if there was a basic warranty. So when we have to buy a new one, it won't be with this one.

best if you only have blu-ray discs
Read Blu-Ray discs fine but would either not read normal DVDs or read them as incredibly glitched out. Fine if your DVDs are only Blu-Ray.

Plug and play
Plug and play so far have not had a chance to watch a Blu ray however the device comes up as a Bluray on windows

LOVE IT ...
Love it! Love it !! Love it !!! I still transfer music & movies from CDs & DVDs, and now I can RW BluRay too I'll never understand why Apple removed the Players/Burners from its MacBook PROs. I don't trust the "cloud" to NOT have issues one day, then everything that you've stored up there is GONE ... HARD COPIES ARE STILL MORE RELIA

Lasted almost a full year...
Lasted almost a year to the day and has started freezing and skipping movies. Is also kind of flimsy; not very study a product. Would suggest to look elsewhere before considering this one.
