Nicely refreshing when wandering around summer festivals...
It's the first time I've bought a kilt, so I've not got any past experiences to compare this against, but as a starter kilt, it's worked quite well. As other people have noted, ordering a size up from your trouser-size resulted in a good fit. The cotton is thick enough to avoid any marylin-munroe incidents and while the brass fittings feel a little on the flimsy side, there's enough redundancy between the twin set of poppers and the twin belts to minimise the risk of accidental openings. There's only two things I'd note. The first is the length - at 24 inches, it may not be quite long enough if you're over 6ft tall. I've been advised by kilt-wearing friends that a good rule of thumb is to measure the distance from your naval to the ground when kneeling; ideally, the kilt should justabout touch the ground when you do this. For me, this kilt was a bit too short to achieve this, but it was still long enough to avoid the impression that I was wearing a miniskirt! The second is the side pockets; they're large enough for a wallet, phone or compact camera, but you'd struggle to fit anything larger in, and while they do have smaller pockets atop the secured pockets, these are more for show than anything else, especially if you're anywhere (e.g. a festival) where security is a concern. So I'd recommend getting some sort of sporran, man-bag or belt-attachable bags if you're wanting to carry more than the absolute bare essentials.

Great kilt, but unfashionable colour
I already have a black utility kilt in the same style (which I'm wearing to work today). This kilt is equally comfortable and nicely made. As the sellers advise, it needs to be worn slightly higher than a pair of trousers, and it's useful to have a wide and solid belt to make sure that the waist doesn't slip down with wear. The two pockets with press studs are capable of holding a lot, but I'd advise not overloading them, as they swing free and so too much weight tends to pull the kilt down. I have quite short thighs, and the bottom hem of the kilt falls just below the knee. This is ideal for my preferences, but someone with longer legs might find that the kilt is a bit short. One point, though, which isn't the fault of the design or the seller, is that the colour of the kilt is completely out of fashion at present. The kilt is a genuine British (or should that be Indian?) khaki, which is slightly more greeny-brown than American khaki. That colour is closer to beige than British khaki is. Despite visiting a range of physical and on-line shops, including military surplus stores, I've not found an exact colour match as regards shirts, t-shirts, hoodies or sweatshirts. In practice, this isn't a problem as the colour goes well with black, navy, dark brown and I'm sure several other colours, but it's a slight limitation.

Sooooooo comfortable! Why don't more men wear kilts?
I've been humming and haaing about getting a kilt for sometime, a forthcoming festival gave me the motivation to press the button and my kilt duly arrived a couple of days later. I tried it around the house and it felt good.I took it with me to the festival, I lost my bottle and didn't wear it on the first day but I regained confidence on the second day and wore it. Being a typical festival crowd, I was not even in the running for standing out so not that many people noticed, the girl in the silver sequin dress got a lot more attention than me! In the end one guy did ask why the kilt, so I told him about the extra comfort over trousers / shorts, the fact that the material does not seem to pull on your thighs, the freedom of movement for other "bits" 8-) ........Which leads me to my question, why don't more men wear kilts?

Black utility kilt
Having stupidly ordered the wrong size, Tartanista kindly exchanged the 34 I purchased for a 38 with absolutely no fuss whatsoever. Customer service as it should be. The kilt itself is really good quality for the price, really sturdy.......... doesn't look or feel like something that will fall apart after a few wears. I'm sure it'll last for years. Wish i'd had the bottle to buy one years ago, because in the current heatwave the cool draft around the thighs is sooooooooo refreshing! Was expecting a torrent of smart comments from friends, work collegues, and customers............... none came! Only compliments and enquiries of where to get one. Would definitely buy again, and will probably buy another couple of their range as well. Love it!

Great Fun to Wear
Love my kilt. It's all black, it hangs well, the creasing is sharp and deep, the material is hard wearing. The little touches (buckles, pockets) add interest. The wide belt loops allow monstrous great belts to be worn, or it is also cool with braces. If you are new to kilt wearing, read the instructions about waist size carefully. Then add a couple of inches. Get a decent belt. Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt.

Wearing it now
I’m wearing it now as I write this. I usually wear a tartan kilt Which is a little more comfortable. The advantages of the utility kilt are: it’s harder wearing, it doesn’t snag and ... it’s got pockets. I’ve just finished the weekly shop for some elderly Covid-bound relatives. I can carry my car keys, money, face mask and sanitizer without the need for a bag or sporran.
