How I Moved to Thailand, Retired Early, Found Love, Built a Mansion, and Live Like a King on a Dime (Succeeding in Thailand)

The author is a gem of a human being
I have to admit that this book was not exactly what I was looking for. I bought it to look more for budgeting as I am married and have been for over 20 years. So in that regard I will say that the Found Love part of the title is a bit more emphasized than the cover might imply. Having said that though. It is an enjoyable read and the author replied to my feedback in such a kind manner with more information related to what I was seeking. I count him as a friend now, never having met him. Part of this is because the story must be true. He sounds happy and replies in a manner that infers he is living like a king. If nothing else it is a great tale of how someone can find what most everyone wants in life. A companion, an affordable place to live, an enjoyable lifestyle and a better way to live. I'd recommend the book on that alone. Some of those I can check off as covered and reading this book may be the start to checking off the enjoyable lifestyle and living like a king for my queen of 22 years and myself.Addendum: After thinking about this I realized that this talked a bit more about the author than the book. Although what I was looking for was covered less than that I anticipated. The story is also a great one that chronicles how much there is to be seen outside the US, with much less stress, money and minus the daily grind of life that likely lead us to buying a book like this in the first place.. Who doesn't want to identify their priorities in life clearly, goto where each can be met and succeed in such a manner that one finds love, companionship, family and an ideal community. This author has and my wife and I are heading that way as well.

Boring, boring...
unless you are a man who is frustrated with life in the western world and like to escape it, this book is so boring for a woman to read!!he talks about western women being gold diggers and how he found his Shangri La in Thailand with a Thai woman who he gave a dowry of 25 000$ when he got married, yes you heard it right, 25 000 american dollars, which is equivalent to half a million Dollars in America, putting in consideration that a massage costs 7 Dollars in Thailand, for 1 1/2 for hrs ,in the western world at a chiropractic office 135$. Not only that on top he built his in laws for 60 000 american $ a mansion in Thailand. Now you tell me who are the gold diggers, women in the western world or the ones in a 3rd world country who like to have an american man who takes care of them. He says he is a recognised writer in america, despite a few facts he mentions in his book nothing really tells you how to live a life in Thailand, very disappointed with this book ! Obviously he doesn't know how to relate the composing of the content of his book to the title of his book "live your dream..." I like to have my money back!

Realistic
I've been to Thailand many times and this is just how it is. Everything is exactly like the book when I am there although I haven't met my bride yet. I enjoyed the references to Thai culture and traditions. When in Thailand I try to respect the Thai culture and not act like an arrogant tourist. This book gave me some tips, like not touching the people taking pictures with them, and the dowry that has to be paid to the wife. I'll look forward to another book.

A great book about a great place
"Scott" does a fantastic non-PC take on the American Woman. His description of life in Udon is spot on. I've lived here for years and he manages to get the flavor of the place just right. He deal well with the little pleasures of living in Thailand. And, he does a great job of capturing the special aura of Thai women. If you're looking for a new life in paradise, read this book. I re-read this book recently and it still does a great job of describing the flavor of expat life in Udon Thani. My only reservation is that too many foreigners will discover how great it is here.

When the pond you're fishing in (for women) is not giving you any good catches, then move to a new pond
The most important points brought to light in this most helpful book are: 1. When the pond you're fishing in (for women) is not giving you any good catches, then move to a new pond. 2. Do your self-reflecting homework and make a list of the criteria you are looking for in a woman. Write it down. and, 3. Stick to that list and be willing to say NO when a person doesn't meet your criteria (e.g., too young, doesn't speak English, etc.). Hold out for the woman you are looking for.

Not valuable information. It is just a story.

Essential reading. A highly original, positive take on Thailand and Thai people
How I moved to Thailand... is a uniquely positive, thoughtful and well-written book on a subject that has spawned dozens of published works. Worn down by life and relationships in the west - the author moves to Thailand in search of a new start. The vast majority of these books are cautionary tales as the author shares a litany of disasters and the reader is left with the feeling that they've dodged a bullet if they've never touched down in Bangkok. I spend at least 2 months every year in this bewitching country and - having read many of these books - I've invariably come to the conclusion that the author brought the issues on himself. There was a massive gap for a book that shows what can happen if you set about the transition in the right way. This book delivers that in spades. It works on many levels - you can instantly relate to the author's struggles to find a partner in the west - and he offers the recipe for how a guy with Jai dee (Thai for good heart) can revolutionise his life with a move to Thailand. If you buy any one book about Thailand and you are left with the feeling that it's a scary place - you have to read this one too as the (far more accurate) antidote. The author knows Thailand, he's lived there for years and this comes through on every page. Highly recommended.

Good Interesting Mans Journey
Enjoyed reading this mans journey from the Us to early retirement in Thailand. Thought there were maybe a few bumps along the way left out but still well worth a full 5 stars.RegardsWayne Freeman

Great reading.
Great reading. Might visit Thailand one day to visit or retire there. Women selfishness in western countries makes us look somewhere else.
